Your welcome. A quick click on the thanks button would make my day, cos i'm sad and care greatly for my thanks to post raitio! LOL

i googled Dreamhack, it looks good from the pictures, as the sites in Swedish.

So would you like me to recommend you one, or are you just going to wait?

    Yup, it's great.

It'd be awesome if you could recommend me one as I'm not sure what to buy.

There's a lot of different choices out there, Check the Asus site and look through the supported CPU list for all the possible CPU's you could get.

I picked out the AMD Phenom Quad Core Black Edition 9850, and theres just a quick review of the thing.

The Phenom i picked out is a big upgrade from your current CPU, but is at the top of your price range, but it's up to you, just look through the supprted ones and pick one that costs as much as you would like to spend, but remember, in PC hardware, you get what you pay for.

    Sounds good. Thanks. :)

Btw, there's no new processors coming out now over these two months which may lower the prices, right? Oh and another quick question, will my PSU be able to handle it?

EDIT: Actually, after looking at the prices of the CPU it's a tad bit over my budget, I'll have to ask my dad for some cash. ;)

About new CPU releases for the socket AM2, I VERY much doubt it, there hasn't been any releases for a while and I think the only new releases from AMD will be in the AM3 category.

About the psu, it should be ok, but no guarantees, put our system specs into an online PSU calculator, just google "power supply calculator", it should be the first one. If it recommends anything under 350w, your current 400w should be fine for now, but if you want to OC, then you should definatly look into getting a new PSU, like the Corsair TX650 or just about anything from the Corsair Range.

http://thermaltake.outervision.com/Power says 273w so I suppose I'm fine. EDIT: Scratch that, I didn't do the aging thingie, it's up to 346w now.

Once again, thanks for your help. I'm going to bed now. I suppose we don't have anything else to discuss but I'll be checking it and see if any new posts are made.

That's pretty close to max, it would be risky running with that PSU, if you could i would upgrade your PSU, but i know your still at school so you probably don't get that much money, but i could be wrong.

Look at something like the Corsair VX550 or the Corsair TX650.

I can't afford any new PSU until somewhere around July, that's when my birthday is. Is there any other CPU which is in my price range but doesn't use that much power?

Hmm, I misunderstood some things, and there is one point which I'm not sure of. What drive do I use? DVD-RW/DVD+RW Drive or DVD/CDRW Combo Drive or anything else? I'm not sure..

Understandable, the 9750 uses 30w less, maybe that is worth a look into, or to be sure, you could pick one of the 65w CPU's from this list, but by cutting down on CPU power usage, you will be reducing the improvement you recieve from the upgrade.

I would guess DVD-RW/DVD+RW, but TBH, the type of drive you use would not change the overall power requirements.

Alright, after understanding everything of the calculator (hopefully) I got 317W with the 9850 with 100% (peak load). That should be enough, right?

Oh and my GPU isn't on the list so I chose another GPU just a step over mine, HD 4670. That shouldn't matter much should it?

Ah, ok, that should be ok then.

Yes, using a more power hungry GPU, is ok for a minimum recommendation.

Guess we are eventually done here then!

Good luck with the new CPU!

(You know where to post if you have any troubles!)
