    Hi all.
I have a new Acer Aspire 3690 and it has been acting crazy of late. When I bought it,,it had vista installed but I had it removed and XP pro installed(too many bugs for me).All was fine until lately. It keeps freezing and locking up.When I try to x out of a program,,the end program now screen pops up.I have Symantec Corporate Antivirus and that picks up nothing.I also run Ccleaner everytime i come off line to delete cookies and temp internet files(although it seems to pick up the same files everytime).I run Ad-Aware 2007 once a week and its clean.I dont know whats wrong.Any advice would be appreciated

There should be no reason to run cleaner that much. The reaosn why you are seeing the same files is because the sites you visit, need those files to operate. By removing everything it all has to be reloaded next time you enter the site. (IE when you log into this forum).

Given the issue, I would guess and OS file issue before Malware - but you should start here:

    Hi Elelight76,
    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Go to add/remove programs and remove Viewpoint Media Player.

Also, be sure before you run the MGTools, that your computer is set to normal startup mode in msconfig. (Start / Run type in msconfig, click on okay, select Normal System Start, click on Accept and ok)

The missing logs - MGlogs.zip and SAS (superantispyware) are still coming?

    Hi Elelight76,

    1) Do you know what these two folders are on your desktop?

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jimmy\Desktop\"
    COPY 20 Apr 2008 "COPY"
    SPY 20 Apr 2008 "SPY

    2) Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the below:

    - Java(TM) 6 Update 5

    3) Reboot after uninstalling the above.

    4) Install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    5) If you do not use Windows Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger!!) I would like you to run Disable/Remove Windows Messenger

    6) Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe"

After you click fix, just close hijackthis.

    7) Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the 'Execute' button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

    8) Now run CCleaner at the default setting with the Windows tab as the top one.

    9) Please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip it generates along with the Avenger log.

Let me know how things are running now?
