Thank you for helping me with my issue. This may not be the proper forum to put this problem, so I apologize in advance. I ran through all the steps in the "Read and Run me first" thread, and nothing is showing any more problems. This computer is still extremely sloooow running. From the time that I click on my icon in the login page to the time that everything has finished loading in the taskbar, it takes 4 minutes and 37 seconds. It still has not completed the login cycle though. If I start firefox right after the last program loads in the taskbar, it takes about 3 minutes for firefox to load. It looks like the system has crashed... the egg timer icon comes on after double clicking and then goes away, but nothing will load... if i am patient and wait about 3 minutes, the egg timer appears again and then, slowly, firefox will load. If I boot up the machine and then just wait for 10 minutes or more before doing anything, and then I double click firefox, then firefox will load in just a few seconds. I don't have the fastest computer, I do realize that, but these load times are just ridiculous. Here are my system specs. I have a Compaq V5000 running windows xp Home Edition. 512MB of RAM on a 1.4GHz Celeron Processor. I am running Norton, which I know is a resource hog, but I can not get rid of it until my license expires in 90 days. I will post the logs from the tests that I ran in case there is something malicious loading in the background. Any help on can get on how to speed this thing up a little bit would be HUGELY appreciated.

Your logs are clean. You may wish to use one of these:

    Startup Manager

    Startup_CPL

You are using most all of your ram...and your hard drive is virtually full and it will make programs run slow without doing a defrag fairly regularly.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks for the help. I will download one of those programs and hope that helps with my memory issue. I will also clean off some of the programs that are not being used. Thanks again for your help.
