I had a wicked virus that I recently got rid of. I had to do a fresh install and wipe my computer. Everything is perfect right now, except when I turn my Dell laptop on, it doesn't boot correctly. It asks me "would you like to boot windows in normal mode". Does anybody know how to fix this probably simplye problem?? Thank you kindly!!;)

Try checking you msconfig....go to start / run / type "msconfig" without qoutes and make sure it is set to normal startup.

Ok.... Thank you! I did that and it is set to normal startup. When I wiped my comp yesterday I deleted all the partitions and recreated only 1. Would that make a difference in this situation?

If you have Windows XP, it could be that something extra is in the boot.ini file. Go back to the msconfig window and click the boot.ini tab. It should look exactly like this:
If you have XP Pro, it would naturally say so in the quotes above. If you have a multiple core procesor, it would have /usepmtimer added to the last line. If you have anything else extra (like /SOS for example) remove it.

NOTE: beore making any changes to the boot.ini file, make a copy of it on C: and call it "original boot file" or whatever. This is in case something goes really wrong you can rename it back to boot.ini to reverse any changes.

Ok, There is an extra line in there. It looks exactly like this-
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

This first line looks like what you displayed earlier, but then there is this line above underneath it. The only difference is that it said partition (2). Should I delete it? Also, under boot ini there is nothing checked under boot options. Should something be checked???

Should I have something checked in the boot ini file? Nothing is checked under msconfig and my computer ask's me if I would like to boot windows in normal mode. Does anyone know how to fix this? Please please help
