    Hello everybody,
I have a windows xp service pack 2 computer. First, I opened two administrator accounts, and later on I decided to delete one of them. However, after I deleted one of the administrator accounts and restarted my computer, the computer logged me on automatically to the built-in administrator account (which is strange because I understand that the built-in administrator account is only to be used in safe mode, and as long as there is another administrator account, the computer should not use it log in automatically). After being logged in to the built-in administrator account, I was able to switch to my personal administrator account by logging off. However, I wanted to log on automatically using my personal administrator account so I did the following. I went to computer management-users- and selected the administrator built-in account and tried to delete it. However, I could not delete it because it says that built-in accounts cannot be deleted, so instead I disabled it. After that, I restarted the computer, but the pc still did not log me in automatically, instead it showed me a message saying that the administrator account had been disabled. It also showed me a window to enter user account and password. I used my personal administrator account to log in, later I opened the advanced user account settings and deleted the built-in administrator account. Also, I unchecked the box that says “users must enter username and password to use this computer.” Right after, I restarted the computer, but still the pc did not log me in automatically; it is still asking me to enter username and password. Also, somehow client services for network was installed and disabled fast user switching , and the welcome screen :cry

I am running out of ideas, and desperately need help!!!

Try following this guide to see if it will log you into your personal administrator account. http://wiki.ljackson.us/Control_Userpasswords2

I realize you have probably already seen this windows but unticking the boxes for "Users must enter a password" and "Require users to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del" would be the normal way to be sure the welcome screen was used.

I have never used a user account on a Windows machine, so I have a question about this situation just in case I ever decide to do so.

Evelyn, at the end you said you did the following and got no response from XP that doing this is not possible:

Does that contradict what you said a little earlier here?:

What I mean is, why were you able to delete the system administrator account at the end but not earlier? Is this possible or not possible?

Also, if you boot to safe mode, will you still now get in, even though you have deleted the default administrator account. Not that it's important, but I would want to know 2 things. Does my username and password work for me to log on, and can boot directly into safe mode using the default (deleted?) administrator account?

Total noob on this subject especially. I have always been totally thrown by the accounts, so I have stayed away from them. It just seems like one other dangerous thing that can go wrong to me...

Forgive me for saying so, Evelyn, but I wonder if you broke down what you did into numbered steps if it would help you better reference your actions for help...like..."I did this step 2" (or step 3, etc.). For each step applicable, you could include a result or something. You made alot of changes in one paragraph LOL...

    Hello Sach2,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I did followed the directions that you provided me through your link, and that has perfectly fixed my problem. I had tried those steps before; I did them and undid them several times, but nothing seemed to work. I guess it was a glitch in the system. However I applied them one more time as you said, and this time they worked, and everything is working perfectly now. Thanks so much!! :wave

    Hello AtlBo,

Sorry for the messiness of my last message, and thank you for your kind interest in helping me. Actually, yesterday I was desperately trying different things to fix my problem, but nothing seemed to work, so I was panicking and trying to do and undo different things. I will do by best to be more specific this time.

This was my situation: every time I turned on my computer, the system always logged me in automatically to the first administrator account that I created. There were in the system two administrator accounts that I had created, and one built-in administrator account that the system had created automatically. After deleting one of the administrator accounts that I created, I restarted the computer, and the system logged me in automatically to the built-in administrator account. I was shocked because I did some research and found out that the administrator built-in account is usually hidden and should be used only in safe mode. Hence, it did not seem normal that the computer was logging me in automatically to it. Once I was logged in to that built-in administrator account, in order to access the other administrator account, the one that I created, I had to log out from the built-in account, and log on to the administrator account that I wanted. Every single time that I restarted/ or turned on my computer, I had to follow those steps (logging off from one account and logging on again to the other account) , which was a hassle. I wanted to be able log in to my administrator account directly, without first being directed to the built-in administrator account. Luckily I have fixed my problem by following the steps that Sach2 advised me!!

Thanks so much for your feedback, ;)

MS TweakUI for XP (available free directly from MS) will also allow you to control the auto logon account, and enable the main Admin account on the Welcome screen. IDK if other versions of MS TweakUI will do that in other OSs.
