Computer cant find scanner of HP All In One?

Hi,
Thanks for any help. I have an HP Photosmart 3210 all in one printer. Its printing, and copying but when I try to use the scanner im getting one of two error messages. One says more or less the computer cant find it the other one says its being used by another program. "No other programs are running" I double checked on that!

Im running windows XP, on a Dell XPS 410. I checked all the connections and they seem to be fine. So not sure what else to do.

This is the first time I have tried scanning on this PC. It was scanning fine on my last PC.

Do you still have the CD that came with your printer/copy/scanner? Find it, put it in you computer and install. Your new computer probably installed drivers it had available and they might not be the best ones. Hope this helps!

 

Lemming02 suggestion is quite possibly your problem.
I find that when a printer is first installed, it is better to have it all ready cabled up, but leave its main supply switched of, or, unplugged, then run the manufacturers software cd to install all drivers, and software, and only switch on/ plug in the printer when asked, and it always works better that way. It is possible that you have not got the scanner diver, and software (like ocr, omnipage pro, or, other )
The scanner works off a Twain driver, and this would be on the CD.

Thank you both for your replies. I have the CD that came with the printer so I ran it and it said all the software on it was already installed.

But now if I go to my control panel to cameras and scanners and click on the scanner I can scan from there. Yet when I go back to the hp software that scans and edits the pictures I continue to get the error messages.

So apparently the scanner is working just not thru that software. So what would be best for me to do at this point? I don't really scan alot and right now the printer, copier are working fine but it drives me crazy when something isn't working right..

It depends on how you originally installed it - if you let Windows install it, and then put the software in, it is worth uninstalling it all, and putting software on again, then connecting printer to computer, when it asks from the cd, and then everything should install properly- usually solves it.

 

Thank you for the push. I just reinstalled the printer and software and now all is fine. You guys are the best I love this board you have never let me down.
