    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

In order for us to tell if it is malware, you will need to do the following:

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

I see that you are no stranger to forums. This forum is ok with you posting back-to-back as long as you don't attach the same logs to both posts :)

It is beginning to look like it may not be malware but with the other logs I will get a better idea and may be able to suggest steps to speed up performance.

Please post back with the other logs. Thanks.

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

    CCleaner Tutorial

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

    Let's empty the temp files:

    Run CCleaner.

    1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

    2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

    3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

    In the Windows Tab:
    • Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
    • Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "System" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
    • Clean any others that you choose.

    In the Applications Tab:
    • Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
    • Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
    • Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
    • Clean any others that you choose.

    4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
    5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
    6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
    7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

Run HijackThis and check the following:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] \"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\jusched.exe\"

    Click FIX CHECKED

    Attach a new HijackThis log.

Most games use a lot of memory. When playing games, shutdown as many other applications as possible.

Click START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>DISK DEFRAGMENTER - Have it analyze your drive and if it suggests to run it then please do so.

Ccleaner was already downloaded and installed as instructed in the READ & RUN ME and it shows that it is installed in the newfiles.txt log! Please remember to link to Majorgeeks file downloads! It is here: CCleaner Also note that our version does not include the Yahoo Toolbar to begin with so you don't need to worry about it when downloaded from our link

    Did that improve your performance?

The only thing I see left would be to replace Norton/Symantec with something that uses less memory such as AVG FREE.
