    Good day

Can anyone help me, my PC has worked fine for a long time, the last few days it has been crashing out randomly (after SP3 instillation) and I was trying to get to the bottom of it, but now it won't get as far as windows. Each time it starts to boot up, gets to the start up options and if I choose, start normally, safe mode or last known working set up, it starts to boot up then the blue screen flashes up for a couple of seconds and then resets and I am back to square one. The BSOD is on for such a short time I am unable to read anything it says.

Where do I go from here?

    Thanks in advance

You could try resetting the CMOS. You need to turn your computer off completely. Switch at the back and unplugged. Wait 5-10 minutes to allow any electrical currents to dissipate. After waiting hit the power button on the front of your PC - this will use up any remaining current in the system. You may see the power line flicker or hear a click, but this is normal. Now that it is safe to do so, open your PC. On the Mother Board there should be a CMOS Battery. This is a chrome circle like a giant watch battery. Remove this Battery. You need to wait for another 10-15 minutes to allow for any remaining charge from the battery to exit the Motherboard. Alternatively, if you're feeling confident you could short the CMOS by connecting the two jumpers with a metal object.

Once this is done, replace the battery, close your the tower and with luck, your problem should be solved.

If you have a Windows CD, boot to the repair console and run checkdisk soonest.

All that crashing and restarting screws up initial files.

Then see if you can get to safe mode and uninstall SP3.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the support, the PC kept crashing out before it booted into the recovery console until I removed the battery and reset it. Then the recovery disk/scndsk fixed the rest. Damn you SP3**shakes fist at screen.
