I have a windows XP machine and have recently had problems connecting to the internet and have no idea what's changed. My "Dr Speedtouch" program from Wanadoo suggests that "Computer does not have networking (TCP/IP) installed", which as far as I knew was included with the XP installation.....

I have tried looking at the properties of the Network card as suggested but there is already a check box for TCP/IP and if I try to install, I presaume reinstall it says that it cannot find the drivers anywhere on the PC. I have tried from the recovery disk to install this and it caused fatal errors on my PC

I have tried trawling through microsofts websites and came across a few patches and also a program to repair/reinstall the TCP/IP and Winsock.....none of this seemed to make any difference.....

PLEASE HELP me use my intenernet connection which I'm paying for!!!

Lets try and kick start your thread,

Do you have all updates for XP?

How are you connecting to the net, USB Modem from Wanadoo, if I remember Speedtouch is the USB modem that Wanadoo give out? or does the Wanadoo speedtouch connect through ethernet?

Have you un-installed Speedtouch and re-installed or checked for updates?

Check if your using IE, Tools > Internet Options > Connections and is your connection set as default?

The fatal errors what were they.... Blue Screen, or some other error if so what did it say and are you still getting them?

In General you can debug the Network Settings of a computer by following these steps.

Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer’s Device Manager. Make sure that the drivers are installed correctly; there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Step Two. Verify Basic network setting in the OS. http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify
If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but functionally it does not work.

Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet

If need to Reinstall; Log to this page it have a lot of links to instructions for Windows Network Installation - http://www.ezlan.net/Installing.html
