    Hi there.
Hi there I hope someone can help me. I have run countless programs in the last 48 hours trying to get rid of this problem. After posting in the malware forums shadow puter dude suggested i post here.

I am running a AMD Athlonxp 3000 512 mb ram and 160 gb hard drive.
My problem started after rebooting when i did a windows update. This is what I got when i restarted:

Main Processor- AMD Athlon XP 3000

    System bios shadow status- shadowed
System video bios shadow status - shadowed
umb upper limit segment address F000H
    PS/2 mouse initiation status- plugged
Primary master hard disk SMART status- BAD
Warning immediate back-up of your data and replace your hard disk drive
    a failure may be imminent.

Also when I restart I get warnings like:

mim exe. -entry point not found the procedure entry point 70M create object@@ya_npbdo_npbdo_npapavmiInterface@@@Z
could not be located in the dynamic link library object manager.dll.

    and

mim.exe_mfc71u.dll was not found reinstalling this application may fix this

The last one started after uninstalling my old printer and installing a new one?

These are all the scans i have run.

    They include:
    Spy bot
    adaware se
    cc cleaner
    windows defender
    windows malicious software removal tool
    bit defender
    panda online
    spy sweeper
    ewido
    trojan scan
    trend micro
    avast
    mcafee avert stinger
    panda quick remover
    blacklight beta
    stop sign

after running all the programs I did not get the system failure warning again but my anti virus is disabled. well actually it just keeps telling me to verify my status and when i do it just keeps repeating over and over. and at one point was telling me that it had expired but it doesnt expire until jan of next year. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but no luck it is still doing the same thing.
Windows defender also came on and said:

An auto start change was made for a known application file: c:\programfiles\mcafee.com\agent\mcuupdate

    also
    " "windowsdefender\mpcmdrun.exe
    and
    " "webroot\spysweeper\spysweeper.exe

I also cannot use my search companion in XP as it says: a file that is required to run search companion cannot be found. you may need to run setup.

ewido found a high risk infection named Downloader.Istbar and supposedly removed it. I also downloaded and ran the removal tool available from Norton but I am still having the same problems.

stop sign detected a virus called mad.3732. I have posted that to shadow and am just waiting to hear back from him. Well thats about all I can tell you for now let me know if you need any more info. I appreciate your help!!!

I looked at your thread in the Malware forum. I would wait and see what suggestions Shadow might have for you.

I would, just to be on the safe side backup any files I wanted to keep just in case it is a hard drive failure. That error can be caused by several things and that just being one..........so just to be safe.

You can use this utility http://majorgeeks.com/Belarc_Advisor_d1385.html to find out the manufacturer of your hard drive. Go to the website and they should have a diagnostic utility that will test your hard drive and identify any problems.

Not knowing which version of Mcafee you have, go to the link below and look under Hot Topics. There are several links there that will help you completely uninstall your version. We hope. :)

    http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/?siteID=1&resolution=1280x800

I would also uninstall MusicMatch and see if that stops some of the errors.

    :) Hi Matacumbie,

I took your advice and uninstalled mcafee using the removal tool I havent reinstalled it yet though as I also did the Belarc scan and I'm not sure what to make of it? Here is the link:
C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp\(Pendle).html . If you could take a look at it I would greatly appreciate it.

    Under drives it says:

WMAES2141551, rev 15.05R15, SMART Failure. but all the other ones are ok.

And under USERS there is an X beside Help Assistant (which I assume is why I cannot use it.)

Under local system accounts there is an X beside both Guest and
    Support_388945a0.

But other than that everything looks ok.

I uninstalled Music Match and I do not get the errors i was getting before so that worked Yahoo!!! LOL

I really appreciate the help. I havent heard back from shadow yet but will let you know what he has to say. Thanks a bunch

A simple test would be to run Scandisk 'Thorough' on the drive. It will do a read/write test on every sector. It will take a LONG time (hours possibly) so try and time it when you don't need the computer for awhile.

Start, right-click My Computer, Manage, Storage, Disk Management, right-click the Volume, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.

    OR

Double-click My computer on the Desktop (or Start, My Computer), select drive, File, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.

Also, is the Mcafee updater still popping up?

For the Search Companion issue try this: Start > Run and type regsvr32 %systemroot%\srchasst\srchui.dll

    Hello again,

Ok i have gone to my hard drive manufacturer website and downloaded Data lifegaurd tools. It told me that my computer was only using 137 mb so it said it would fix it then restarted and I got the warning message again?? then it asked me to stop some start up items and that is when i found a really wierd entry in the start up items never seen it before. It was a bunch of symbols and a file name leading to a windows NT folder?????? so i turned it off. then when i restarted a error message came on saying:

Windows can not find (a bunch of symbols) make sure you type the name correctly then try again.

Then another error: could not load or run (symbols) specified in the registry make sure the files exist on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry?

I ran the lifegaurd and this is what it says

size LBA Sectors 312581808 (160.04 GB)

    DMA

MW DMA Support 0,1,2 MW DMA Active
MW DMA Cycle time 120 ns Min Cycle\ void 120 ns
Ultra DMA Support 0,1,2,3,4,5 Ultra DMA Active 5

    Misc

    Firmware revision N\A
    SMART support enabled
ATA # supported 6,5,4,3,2 IORDY support yes
    R\W multiple yes sectors\block 16
PIO mode support 3,4, PIO cycle time 120 ns

not sure if you needed that but thought i would just stick it in there. So I am going to restart now in normal mode and will run scandisk while im gone to an appointment. Oh yeah tried running the tag you gave me for search but didnt work. Thanks again

    Hi Matacumbie

As you can see it wont let me copy in startup menu. So I am not quite sure how to describe these symbols They look like Chinese writing (actually I think it is) but what do I know LOL. Scan disk was done by the time I got back and fixed a bunch of stuff. Not the search though and I have looked at the link you gave but am not sure about installing SP2 again, if I do do I need to uninstall the old one? I tried the other 2 methods but the 2nd one was no good and the third one i need a windows XP cd for (which I dont have). My computer is running much smoother now though and I will run disk defragmentor while i wait to hear back from you. I will also restart my computer to see if I am still getting the error messages.

This is my latest post to Shadow. I still havent heard back from him since my last post.

    Hi Shadow

I have been working with matacumbie in the software forum and we have discovered a file in the start up menu that he said I should bring to your attention. In startup menu at the bottom of the list in the last 2 lines alls there are, are symbols that look like chinese writing (actualy I think it is). Then next to it under Command there are more symbols and Under Location it says HKLM\Software\Microsft\Windows NT\Current... And that is all I can read . It wont let me copy and paste it either. I have also done scandisk and it fixed a bunch of problems just want your input on these 2 entries. Thanks

Ok now I cant run dik Defrag?????? Oh my:eek: an error message comes on and says: MMC cannot open the file: C:\Windows\System32\dfrg.msc.
This may be because the file does not exist,is not an mmc console or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file.

Just to suggest ...haven't been following this thread, but if you seem to be "missing" abunch of files that are needed to run stuff ....insert your xp cd ...close it out if it auto starts ....go to start / run and type "sfc /scannow" (without the qoutes) ...let it run ...report back any errors it finds/fixes...:)

Ok when I restarted the scandisk verification page came on. It went on to delete these files I did not get them all but here is what I could jot down.

wk detect.exe in index $130 of file 3691
    wk fud.exe in same file
    CurlZ__.ttf in index $130 of file 5267
    dos737.fon in same file
    desktop ini same file
and got cut off in the middle of this one: m5xm13r?

I tried to run scandisk again it started ran for about 2 seconds and then said the voluume was fine and quit. I will post this to shadow as well.

Here is some other stuff I found that isnt working.

My system info in system tools takes me to help and support if I go into use tools to diagnose problems and click on the following it says UNDEFINED:
    Advanced system info
    my computer info
    system config utility

These other ones came up as script errors
    disk cleanup
    disk defrag
network diagnostics would not complete the scan
    Thanks

    A very  frustrated Jenine

Ok I fixed it. Feel kind of stupid lol. when I did the windows update when this all started earlier I didnt realise that there was a Parser for it . I went into windows update as a last straw and it told me that I needed this parser. Everything is working now even mcafee. I really appreciate your help and taking the time to deal with my stupity. All the best
