Hi, my computer freezes a few mins after starting, and I can only use safe Mode to access IE. I posted in Malware Removal section and went thru all the steps TimW asked me to. He has suggested I post here in the Software section.

Have you run MemTest? When exactly does your computer typically freeze, can you force it to freeze by executing a program or command? What programs are currently running when it freezes?

Hi, No I have not run a MemTest (how do I do that?). When I start using Normal Mode, and log on to user account, for a few mins, I can access some programs but not IE or online based programs such as games. After about 5 mins the computer is frozen i.e cannot click on any icon on desktop for example, although keyboard is still functional i.e. caps/ num lock key still works - but ctrl/alt/delete does not. Mouse cursor still moves. Have not forced it to freeze by running a program or command. Only programs running are those loaded at start up - McAfee/ MSN Live.

How much RAM do you have? MacAfee antivirus is a very "system hungry" program. If you are cleared by Tim from Malware, you might try uninstalling MacAfee. Can you do anything at all with your pc in safemode? Just a starting place, other than what has already been mentioned. As far as Antivirus software, you can lots of free smaller ones on major geeks, via the home page under "Antivirus" in the left hand column. Just some thoughts. Good luck & keep us posted. Thanks, Shanrene

Hi and thank you for quick response :)

    There is 960 MB RAM

I have uninstalled McAfee - only effect is to delay the freeze, about 10 mins after logging on in Normal Mode. Freeze does not occur in Safe Mode and am able to access IE (hence these posts). When in Safe Mode, Administrator & 4/5 accounst can access IE - one account cannot and this is the one where the freeze happened first. In Normal Mode when IE is selected in the 4/5 accounts it shows as running and then not responding and then freeze. In the remaining account (the one that froze initially) it shows IE not available.
