Computer Freezes After Connecting To Internet

Hi. I'm new here and am hoping that someone can help me without yelling or thinking I'm a huge idiot.

Four days ago, my laptop froze while I was on the internet; mouse wouldn't move, ctrl+alt+delete did nothing, so I had to just switch off without shutting down. I turned it back on and before I could try anything, it froze again. I turned it off and back on, this time in safe mode. Not sure what else to do, I ran Spybot S&D. Nothing came up. I restarted normally, and the computer froze again. This time I started in safe mode with networking. I was able to connect to the internet, and googled for a solution. I couldn't really find anything. I went ahead & turned off my automatic internet connection, ran disk cleanup, CC Cleaner, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, and Smart Defrag. I rebooted, and everything was fine, but as soon as I connected to my internet, the computer froze again. I turned it off & back on, ran all the previous programs before connecting, as well as running a McAfee & Microsoft Security scan (nothing was found). I then tried connecting to the internet, and it worked fine for 4 days.

Then it happened again this evening. I pretty much did the same things I discussed above, and eventually I was able to connect to the internet without the computer freezing. I'm not sure what's causing this, or what someone would need to know to be able to help me. Anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

The problem is With Itnernet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome?
What O.S are using you?
Did you tried to reinstall / update your navigator?

 

gili isn't me. I'm using Mozilla and Vista 64 bit. I had an IT friend remote access my computer, and he seems to believe I have a virus. I did a system restore, which worked for a few days; I'm not sure how to reinstall. I'm gonna post in the malware thread, but if you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
