Computer freezes when I close the lid

My laptop is set to go to sleep when I close the lid, and has been doing so since I first got it. Now, however, all that happens is that the screen goes black, but the computer is still on. The green light indicator at the front is on and I can hear it running. I will open the laptop, the screen will remain black. The reason that I know that it has frozen is because if the caps lock light is on, it will remain on if I click it. I hope I explained my situation thoroughly enough.

And since there are a couple of other problems I'm having (sound drive and usb ports not working), I thought it might have been malware. As it turns out, it doesn't seem like there is, but they had me run a myriad of tests and perhaps ya'll would want access to them, I'm not sure:

UPDATE: I changed the lid settings from 'sleep' to 'hibernate' when the lid is closed, and everything works fine.I could manage on that fix, but if any one has a solution to those other two problems, I would appreciate hearing it..or if you have an idea on how to solve this sleep bug.

 

Make sure al drivers are up-to-date, for the sleep bug,,,check Power Options and see how long your monitor and hard drives are set to before they turn off!!!!
