Hi, it started with my computer monitor not working, so i took it out of the dvi adapter and placed into the normal blue connection, where it works. When the computer boots up no problem everything works fine even though there is a weird fan noise like starting a car, but when the computer goes into sleep mode, when you use the mouse to awaken, you can hear a whirring sound like a fan make a few attemps and then nothing the monitor light is amber, I know its not the monitor or the cables as i have swapped things around, I then took my computer out of sleep mode, but when you return to the computer the screen is frozen, I have a feeling it might be the graphics card (because the DVI stopped working), but dont want to buy a new one just in case. The computer says that the video card is working, any way to find out whats causing my problem. If you on the computer and stay on it nothing happens its only if you go away and come back, you can hear the fan revving and whirring as if its trying to come back but doesent, so i have the turn off the computer by holding in the button, when i turn it back on the computer says its resuming windows. any help appreciated.

Sorry for the lack of replies, you may have fixed the problem by now, but if not, try this.

Please State the PC Specs, or the make/model number of the PC.

Open up the case, and check the CPU fan and any case fans that are installed and make sure there are no wires touching the fan or could easily move to touch the fan.

    Hi

I have opened the pc case, and everything seems fine, by the way the freezing has lessened since i took away the sleep option, still cant use monitor in dvi slot i have bought a new dvi adapter but still not working, but the whirring noise upon starting is still occuring. Any way of checking out if video card is functioning properly even thought the pc says it is
    attached are my specs

You could try updated drivers for your graphics card, the ones you have are July of last year so there's likely been several updates.

Also, you say you hear a fan working hard, have you located which fan it is?
I would say it's a temp problem but thats inconsistent with the issues you are having.

Disable all power options and screensavers, to see if that makes any difference.

The DVI not working would suggest the card has issues but it could also be a setting on the monitor.

Do you play games? If so do you experience any issues while playing, such as lock ups or stuttering or crashes?

did you try starting it up with the side panel off and checking all fans are spinning up to speed?
