    Hey guys,

Recently I'm having issues with running any sort of programs/softwares on my desktop. I would try to open control panel from the start menu, for example, but it doesn't load. The start menu would still be present and the mouse pointer changes into waiting for respond animation. Everything else becomes nonresponsive, such as the browser, and it takes like 10 mins for it to load control panel. Everything will be fine for a few mins, then the cycle starts again.

I am pretty sure it is not a virus/malware. I scanned with Kaspersky Internet Security, Malwarebyte, Superantispyware, and Ad-aware. I deleted the temporary internet files, cleaned my registry with Auslogics.

My main suspicion is one of the several svchost.exe is taking 137,236K of memory even at a below normal priority. However, I could be severly compromised security wise as Kaspersky Internet Security was recently purchased and installed.

Any suggestions and help are greatly appreciated.

    Hi

My svchost.exe is currently using about 113MB (113,000K) of memory... that is normal.

What is your machine make and model number? What Windows version (i.e. XP, Vista) and service pack are you running?

How much RAM is listed in My Computer, right click, select Properties?

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, alexl.

To follow up on mcsmc's questions:

Do the freezes occur while in Safe Mode? If not, then some 3rd-party software may be causing the problems. If this is the case, then you can selectively disable any startup programs to find the culprit.

I'd also strongly suggest that you go through the Malware Forum's Read & Run Me First thread and attach the required logs to a new thread in that forum - let the Malware experts make sure the machine is indeed clean.

Really? is it using more than ur browser memory because mine is.

ZT Systems 7324Ma running Vista Home Premium SP1 Build 6001

System Information says Total Physical Memory is 4GB and Available Phy. Memory is 2.37GB

I think I fixed the problem with a simple disk cleanup.

Thanks to both of you for your help.
