I see in your first post that ashsnap.exe is using %30 CPU, that's just insane. Ashampoo is using way too much resources. Two things, check msconfig and delete anything you don't need upon startup or get rid of Ashampoo and see what happens and/or both.

    Hi,

That Belarc Profile does not give startup files but does include many of your license keys for your software. I think you should delete the attachment. (Click on User CP at the top left of MG page. Then select Attachments at the bottom of the left panel. Mark the box for the appropriate attachment and select Delete button at the bottom of the page.)

CCleaner will give you a list of startup items. Open CCleaner go to Tools then Startup and at the bottom is a button for "Save as text file" which will give you the list.

You can try Seatools for Windows to make sure your HD is operating properly. Sometimes an older HD will cause lockups. It is probably fine but it can't hurt to rule that out.

    Hi,

I was really just posting to let you know the attachment contained your keys. I don't see anything jump out in your startups but maybe someone else sees a conflict.

I took a look at Disk Doctor and it looks like a version of chkdsk. I think I would run SeaTools extended test as it is different to rule out the HD.

Freezing requiring a restart could be HD, HD cable (they do go bad) or software. It sounds like taskmanager won't open when you have your freeze ups but maybe next time hit ctrl+alt+delete and give it a minute or two to see if it will open.

That seatools error seems to be related to card readers or USB devices. If you have any USB flash or hard drives plugged in you can try without them.

If the HD sentinel free trial gives you that report like falconattack posted that should be fine. We just want to make sure there are no obvious problems with the HD. IObit disk doctor just checks the file system not read/write abilities of the HD.

OK here is the Hard Disk Sentinel report:major

The report indicates that it might be a problem with the cable. That is not too difficult to test if you have a spare cable.

If you don't have a spare cable you could try swapping the one that you have your CD/DVD drives attached to with the one your HD is using. With computer unplugged, you have to swap the entire cable including attaching it to the HD/Disk 0/Primary IDE connector on the motherboard. Meaning you can't just change the connections at the CD drives and HD but have to make sure to also swap the motherboard position. So remove the cable from the CD drives and the motherboard. Remove the cable from the HD and motherboard, noting which connector on the motherboard is used for the HD. Then attach the previously CD cable to the HD connector on the motherboard and connect other end to the HD. Not difficult just hard to describe which is why I didn't put it in my first post.
If you don't have any freeze ups then you know you have to get a new cable. You can attach your possibly bad HD cable to the CD drives but I wouldn't try to do any burning with the drives until you figure out whether the cable was the problem and is bad.

The video looks like a tutorial on deleting junk files--I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd scout around for an extra IDE cable from an old computer or friend with an extra (they used to include them with retail HDs so there are tons of unneeded ones around) and replace the cable. Between the symptoms and the HD Sentinel report it is a likely culprit.

If you still have HD Sentinel try running it again and post the report. I wonder if it gives the same error?

    Conclusion
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crash dumps are enabled but no valid crash dumps have been found. It may be that there are problems which prevent crash dumps from being written out. Check out the following article for possible causes: If crash dumps are not written out.

In case your computer does experience sudden reboots it is likely these are caused by malfunctioning hardware, power failure or a thermal issue. To troubleshoot a thermal issue, check the temperature using your BIOS setup program, check for dust in CPU and motherboard fans and if your computer is portable make sure it's located on a hard surface. Otherwise it's suggested you contact the support department of the manufacturer of your system or test your system with a memory test utility for further investigation.
