Not sure if this is the right thread to post in so MOD's feel free to move it.
I'm going to give alot of detail so bear with me. I appreciate it.

I have been racking my brain to figure out a video issue. I get horizontal lines sporadically on my new media center.
I never seems to happen in desktop mode and much less in windowed mode than full screen. it happens on low and high quality video but more on high quality. It happens on most games but more often on higher settings. It happens on hulu and youtube too. The same scene or action in a game that causes the lines won't always cause them when played again.
It could be described as Tearing in the video or Scan lines that don't actually move up like interfernce but just jump in and out.

Sometimes even low quality video can cause it on fast moving objects or dark to bright transitions.

the signal path goes out both DVI ports 1 to a gateway 21" monitor the other to a pioneer vsx51 out a 35ft HDMI to a Panasonic 42". I have tried with and with out each screen and in duplicate and extended mode. It does seem to happen a little more on the tv than the monitor but only slightly

So I ran pc check Hardware Diags and everything passed. I updated drivers and and took out everything extra off the Mobo (cable card, rocketfish sound card, usb breakout, dvd drive. just to rule out all I could).
Then I got a saphire HD 6670 and replaced the 550. still had the issue, maybe even more so. I put that 6670 into another much older machine (core2duo 8gb ram 5400 rpm drive) and no lines on video at all.
I switched the 550 back and put it on the other PCIexpress port. it seem to happen much much less but after a few days it is back to happening about every 30 seconds +- 20.

other info that probably doesn't matter.
The Mobo usb 3.0 ports had issues on an active 32 ft monoprice cable but 2.0 worked fine.
Sata ports 0&1 are ok the others are bad and there was a recall that was missed. Hence the Raid card.

I guess that leaves the MOBO but it seems like such a strange problem I thought I would ask before upgrading as if I have to spend money on that I would want to upgrade the case and power supply so that I could upgrade the gpu and cpu later and keep the machine longer.

the System temp also seems fine. the system stays on about 20 hours at a time and peaks at about 60c

    So any ideas?

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

60c is too hot man you need to get your video cards temp down i have the same card the max temp for a 550TI is 160F or in 71c.

I would use msi afterburner to turn up the Fan Speed.

    Here is link.--->http://www.majorgeeks.com/MSI_Afterburner_d6254.html

You are about to burn out your card.I would all so check all of your fans to make sure they are running and dust free.

I welcome all Ideas but I wouldn't think it's the card temp since the HD6670 was tried out in the system. It took about 10 minutes to install it's drivers from a cold boot and if I remember I think that card was somewhere around 39c and it still did it.

I also wouldn't have guessed that I was "about to burn out my card" operating at 72F below the manufacture recommended max of 212. When I google around I find that most people with that card are seeing between 65 to 80 and several people being told that 75c is nothing to worry about or worth trying to improve.

However as I said I welcome all ideas so I moved the raid card to give more air space. I took canned air to the system outside and there was not much dust at all. I downloaded afterburner and played around with it. right now after being on for a few hours I'm at 56c on a single monitor direct DVI.

I wish it was something that simple but I still see the lines.
