Computer keeps dying!

Recently my computer has been shutting down about where the "microsoft blue screen with colorful square" comes up. This is the screen right before I login. We are not on a network, but we log in to our own screens.

I am running:

Microsoft XP home
e-machines T1860
Athlon xp 1800+
256 mb
power is ATX p4 compatible (swapped for testing a ATX p4, not compatible)

We've tried:
- getting the filthly dust out of computer! (there was A LOT!)
- changing out the power supply, the other power supply (from older computer would not post), (see above) that particular power supply is less than a year old.
- swapped memory (same quality, same size), no change
- switched hard drives to a hard drive formatted with windows 98, no change, crashed on reboot
- swapped the processor (same type), it worked until today and now has died on reboot 4 times this morning. It's a miracle I'm on at all and typing really fast.
- hubby is not convinced it's isn't the power supply
