Over the last week, my computer has been frequently crashing and freezing. Whenever I'm on Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome, when I start loading up a page, it immediately freezes and the browser crashes completely. I don't know what the hell is going on considering my computer is considerably fast and I've never encountered a problem like this before. I have over 4GB of ram on my computer so it shouldn't really have these problems. I even scanned it using MalwareBytes and defragged the harddrive but my browsers keep freezing and crashing still. I don't know whats going on. I've never had these problems before. I don't understand why this is happening.

Does it do it if you use IE also???? Try using the browsers without add-ons.

No, I haven't tested it on IE because I don't particularly use it, but I will assume it would also crash on I.E. The entire browser just freezes completely and it just crashes completely. It's absolute bullshit. I'm about to launch this computer out of my window, I am not even kidding. I have never been this fed up before. I have no patience for this type of shit. It's simply intolerable. I scan my computer regularly for viruses, I have a working firewall, I stay away from Spyware websites, I run Disk Defrags daily. I don't understand why this is happening. I disabled all of my add-ons and everything, and it still crashes. I don't even know what to say at this point.

USUALLY, I'm able to open 20+ tabs and never experience even A HINT OF LAG, but now I can't even keep more than two tabs open without loading up a web page and the browser crashing to hell. This is absolute BS! This is what I get for buying MICROSOFT products. WORST OPERATING SYSTEM IN THE WORLD.

Try Firefox in safe mode. NOT Windows safe mode,,FF safe mode.

I don't think running FF in safe-mode would do much. I just want to fix the source of this issue. Is there anyway to determine what's causing my computer to behave like this? I want to fix it completely.

Please calm down and follow the suggestions given here. We cannot help you if you reject everthing.

Try running using IE and see if you can open multiple windows.

Try running Firefox in safe mode.

Did you download any new software, do a software update or add any hardware within a day or so prior to the problem starting? Did you run a registry scanner/repair process just before the problem started?

What exact version of OS are you running?

Alright sorry. I just ran Firefox in Safe Mode, and I still experienced some problems with unresponsive pages but it didn't crash. I just ran Internet Explorer and it seems to run alot smoother compared to Firefox/Google Chrome. I haven't downloaded any new software or ran any updates in the last few days or so, nothing I can think of at least. I really have no idea. I even scanned my computer using Malwarebytes and it didn't pick anything up, so I really don't understand. I'm running Vista 64-bit. This is just a really strange problem. I normally just boot up Google Chrome and I can surf the web endlessly without ever encountering any unresponsive webpages or crashing, but since these past few days it's been crashing nonstop. I don't know what the source of the problem could be honestly.

What exactly do you mean by "unresponsive pages"? For the pages that load, do they do so at the normal speed or are they slow? What exactly happens when the system crashes?

I am totally unfamiliar with Vista and far from expert on troubleshooting hardware and software. Hopefully one of the experts will post with suggestions on rigorous troubleshooting.

My computer just stops responding. If I'm surfing the internet using a browser, it will randomly stop functioning, and it will freeze and if I try to click anywhere, it will say "This page has stopped responding." Then moments later the entire browser will crash and it will say "Failed to respond." The system is just unstable. My computer is just not stable at all since the last week or so. I don't know what the hell is going on honestly. It's been driving me insane. It's just freezing non-stop. I haven't encountered any blue screens yet luckily, so thats good. But aside from that, yeah. My computer is just infected with something, definitely. It's never acted like this before.

What antivirus, antimalware and firewall do you have installed and active?

What versions are Firefox and Flash (For both IE and non-IE)?

Do you have Java installed and active in the browsers? If so, what version?

What networking adapter is installed, is it running the latest drivers from the chip maker?

Antivirus? I currently don't have one. Antimalware? I use MalwareBytes. I'm not sure about the Firewall. I just have whatever Firewall that Vista generally has when you get the computer. My Firefox is version 9.01. My Google Chrome is 16.0.912.77 m. I'm not sure about IE cause I never use it though. I have no idea about the networking adapter portion of your question, sorry. I'm not very tech savy and I don't really know much about computers.. All I know is that for some odd reason, this week my computer has been sporadically crashing. Mainly the browsers due to some sort of strange reasons. I honestly think it has to due with some program I recently installed that may have potential spyware in it, that may be causing this constant freezing. Or maybe my browsers are just outdated. I really don't know..

Perhaps you can list the new programs for us then, look in add/remove Programs and order them by installed date to make it easier.

Have you checked the Processes tab of Task Manager to see if you can spot the CPU hog during one of these sessions? If not, please do so, keep TaskMan on top while you browse, it should give us some pointers.

First off, what are you working with?

    What OS?
    32bit or 64bit?
    Version of Firefox? - 9.01
    Version of Chrome? - 16.0.912.77
    Version of IE?
    What firewall?

Also would be nice to see all installed programs. Here is how you can easily do that: Download CCleaner. If you've never used it before, it's pretty the best free temp files cleaner (plus a little more). Install CCleaner and run it. Head to: Tools -> Uninstall -> Save to Text File... Open the file you saved it to and wrap it in Code tags
