Hey everyone, i posted a week back or so about my puter not starting up. I got hit by a surge, blew a capacitor - hence a new MOBO.

So now i have the new MOBO (installed today) and everything was seeming to be back on track. Then after bios setup - the system rebooted.

everything loaded up again, got to the desktop - and it rebooted again.

    and again.

    and again.

So here i am 10 hours later still trying to figure out what is wrong with this damn thing - looking online - finding such things as power supply issues to reinstalling windows.

i attempted to reinstall windows but i cannot get more than 2 minutes into it before the system reboots itself.

power supply was checked and is ok.

any suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated.

    thanks everyone!

could be bad memory how many modules do you have installed. if more than one I would pull out one at a time to see if it stops rebooting

also make sure cpu fan is spinning up and make sure there are no stand offs in the case that shouldnt be there. Some boards have more holes then others for mounting.

can you go in safe mode.if you can, right click mycomputer>properties>advanced>startup and recovery>and uncheck-automaticaly restart.this will stop rebooting and will bring you to BSOD,if you have problems with hardware, software or drivers.if you have BSOD:http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35246

I would suppose the surge damaged more than just the motherboard. The rebooting behaviour can be caused by anything connected. So strip out everything (usb, mouse, keyboard, anything plugged in, all cards including memory, graphics, modem lan etc) except the processor, reseat that, and reboot.

If you get a series of beeps in complaint at no memory add things back one at a time until you discover the culprit.

If is still keeps rebooting either the processor is faulty or your new board or your psu.

I favour the psu as having been hit rather than the memory, although I have seen pretty well every component, from keyboards to modems do this after a surge.
