Computer "locked"

    I've got a Laptop runing Windows XP and have an issue with rootkit.win32.agent/pp. I've tried to incorporate some of tutorials found on the internet but the difference is that I can not access internet, usb ports (virtually non existant), cd drive (virtually non existant), regedit or safemode (it freezes midway)...

    Any ideas how to at least make work CD drive or usb ports? :confused:confused

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    We need to get some answers to a few questions to help us determine what to do.
    • Why can't you access the internet? Exactly what happens?
    • Have you check settings to make sure it was not configure to use a Proxy Server when you do not need one or vice versa.
    • Which browser are you using?
    • Can you open Task-Manager with CTRL-SHIFT-ESC ? If so, do you see any unrecognized processes?
    • Have you tried booting in safe mode to see if behavior is any different?
    • Do you see a folder like C:\Program Files\Malware Defense or anything else that looks suspicious?
    • Do you have your Windows XP boot CD so that the Recovery Console could be used?
    • When did the problem begin?
