Hello, about a week ago I got some malware on my computer. It seems like it attached to Chrome, possibly an extension. I haven't noticed changes on the computer other than antivirus alarms going off frequently and an increased amount of spam. It also seems like it's trying to redirect with alerts saying whatever site is unsecure.

Before finding this site I ran Malwarebytes and removed the infected items. Since then, I haven't attempted any more removal and only run the requested logs.

Thank you for your time and any help you can provide.

    Welcome to MajorGeeks, Augustin_FL

Please open RogueKiller again and run a scan. After it finishes the scan, select the Registry tab and then select any of the below that exist and then click the Delete button.
    Then immediately reboot your PC.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Make sure to shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Next download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • When it's done you'll see: Pending: Please uncheck elements you don't want removed.
    • Now click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • Look over the log especially under Files/Folders for any program you want to save.
    • If there's a program you may want to save, just uncheck it from AdwCleaner.
    • If you're not sure, post the log for review. (all items found are either adware/spyware/foistware)
    • If you're ready to clean it all up.....click the Clean button.
    • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
    • Attach that logfile to your next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which are created when running the tool.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • AdwCleaner[S#].txt
    How things are working now?

Whoa! It didn't like that. I felt like I was in the Exorcist where the computer did what it wanted.

Used RogueKiller without issue and deleted the registry items. Ran Junkware Removal and it killed Chrome for me. So to get to AdwCleaner I had to use Explorer. Followed your link and it got hijacked, downloading a bunch of other programs. After that, Chrome popped up so was able to get to the correct link to AdwCleaner. It removed most of those spam programs that were installed originally but still have something called MiPony on the Desktop. Sure as heck didn't open that.

Attached the new logfiles. Forgot to mention before but Chrome kept asking to open in developer mode which I kept declining. Hasn't done that again but did see some alerts that came from EMET which was recommended as another malware prevention.

    Hello, Augustin_FL

*Some material for you - http://www.pcworld.com/article/2101...in-microsofts-emet-antiexploitation-tool.html

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    • O2 - BHO: AdvanceElite - {3b2cb4c8-72ab-4b25-8fa1-219b36a60bed} - C:\Program Files (x86)\AdvanceElite\AdvanceElitebho.dll
    • O23 - Service: Update AdvanceElite - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files (x86)\AdvanceElite\updateAdvanceElite.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Using "Programs & Features" uninstall: (If you do not find it or it will not uninstall, just keep going.)
    AdvanceElite
    MiPony 2.0.2

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Services
    Update AdvanceElite
    :Files
    C:\Program Files (x86)\AdvanceElite\updateAdvanceElite.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\AdvanceElite
    C:\Program Files (x86)\MiPony
    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.*
    C:\Users\Jeff\AppData\Local\Temp\*.*
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thank you for all your help on this. You really are a genius when it comes to hunting these things down. :)

Completed all the items. Things seem to be working ok but ran RogueKiller and it still notes suspicious processes. Is this something to be concerned about? I've attached the logfile in case. Seems like something is still sticking inside Chrome.

Also read up on EMET... in your opinion is there any value to having it on your computer?

    Thanks again!

    You're welcome.

Yes, some value since v5.0 has been released. *Note that the only browser it protects is Internet Explorer. You might want to see what Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit has to offer.

    Let's do this:
    Reset Chrome to Defaults

    Any improvement?

Well, not so much. Reset defaults and immediately rebooted and those processes were still there. Searched for nacl64 and seems they're inherent processes in Chrome? Seems after I did that it killed my ability to launch Chrome so had to reboot again to get it back.

Ran the other programs used earlier and now I'm getting hits on Hitman where I hadn't before. I've attached logs again.

    Any thoughts?

What was done to explain why Google Chrome isn't showing in your Uninstall Listing?

Please download this and let me know if it shows and try to "Force Removal" if necessary:

    GeekUninstaller 1.3.1.38.
*Also check to see if Google Update Helper is found and can be uninstalled.

Now you need to make sure that the folders from Chrome are deleted! I suggest that the below be deleted ( if they still exist ) and this must be done before ever reinstalling Chrome:
    C:\Users\Jeff\AppData\Local\Google
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Google

Download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1
    Download Mirror #2

    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
      Code:
      :filefind
      *Chrome
      :folderfind
      *Chrome
      :regfind
      *Chrome
    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Code:
    [b]Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\AppDataLow\{1146AC44-2F03-4431-B4FD-889BC837521F}]
    [-HKU\S-1-5-18\Software\AppDataLow\{1146AC44-2F03-4431-B4FD-889BC837521F}][/b]
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Please attach the SystemLook.txt to your next reply.

Good news... Chrome seems dead and the processes are gone from RogueKiller. Bad news is I'd installed the recommended firewall Comodo and it crashed my system. Had to do a system restore to get back and had to follow all the steps we'd done until now to get back to this point.

I'm still seeing popups from EMET, don't know if that's because it's an old version. Now a bunch of rootkits items in RK. Ran the tools we've used until now. Most were fine but Avast killed Adwcleaner. :-/ Hitman had 1 item pop up.

When I did the registry item it said it was successful. Hopefully we're close by now.

    1. Advice already given on EMET
    2. RK shows nothing malicious
    3. Forewarned about anti-virus appls giving false detections on malware speciality tools
    4. Nothing needing attention in HitmanPro log.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase it, it provide no protection. It do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and re-enable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7/8 - it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Win 7/8, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
