    Hi!

A company from Toronto by the name of Benison Computers called today at our home saying that our computer is infected, and that virus is leaking all our personal information out including name, credit card info, address, etc. etc. and that since our modem is on, the virus is spreading. Now, I doubt someone would even bother to call us about virus, but this guy is saying that within weeks or months, our hard drive will be wiped clean. Since we are fairly new, we use the computer to surf the net.

Here's the thing. He told me to go to Computer Management Log, and see that I have errors and warnings. I do have a handful of errors and some warnings but I doubt any of them are viruses. Another thing that bothers me is that he told me to go to http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx and click "Join Remote Control Session". This is where I had to stop since he would get access to our computer.

My dad, being that he does not know anything about computers, is freaking out. I myself am more or less a user, rather than a troubleshooter. Is there a serious issue, or is this guy a scammer or con artist? Please help!

    Thank you very much!

Greetings, TheAstonMartian, and welcome to MajorGeeks...

Yeah, Event Viewer is usually populated with various sundry errors and warnings, so that's normal...

Tell Dad to chill - he appears to be in good hands...

Good catch, and thanks for the head's up...

    Hi Caliban!

It's a relief since I myself am more or less, a beginner and have no knowledge about the process. To bad, the idiot will call in four hours but at least, now we know. Thanks for the warm welcome and support! Really appreciate it!

If the guy physically called round, check the wireless security on your router, set a new Admin password to access the router as well. If you don't need or use wireless, ensure that it's disabled.
