I posted a few weeks ago, in the Software forum about my pc being painfully slow. Addressed the issues that it was having and followed the suggestions that were offered and all seemed fine. Then a new issue today...the fan is running constantly and very loud. I had just cleaned the pc so there should be very little dust and it's well ventilated.

Well now the pc is moving at a snails pace again, pages are slow to load, freezing and occasionally common folders will open on there own. And tons of non-responsive script errors.

I use Avira and it comes up clean. I run MalwareBytes & CCCleaner faithfully. I use Firefox and when it first showed this issue I disabled extensions and themes.

Computer is old. I know way past time for a new one but finances won't allow that right now. It's a Dell Dimension 4550, Windows XP.

I ran all the suggested programs and did notice they picked up some things that my anti virus didn't. The logs are attached. And I ran CCCleaner right before I posted this.

Would appreciate someone having a look a the logs. Thanks in advance.:wave

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\bProtector Web Data
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\bProtectorPreferences
    c:\docume~1\alluse~1.win\applic~1\browse~1

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID\{C3110516-8EFC-49D6-8B72-69354F332062}]
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1935655697-1364589140-682003330-1003\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{0ECDF796-C2DC-4d79-A620-CCE0C0A66CC9}]
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1935655697-1364589140-682003330-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\bProtectSettings]
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now shutdown your protection software and run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Uninstall the below software:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 29

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {81017EA9-9AA8-4A6A-9734-7AF40E7D593F} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8E5E2654-AD2D-48bf-AC2D-D17F00898D06} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: AdblockIE - {90EFF544-3981-4d46-85C9-C0361D0931D6} - mscoree.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {8E5E2654-AD2D-48bf-AC2D-D17F00898D06} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0019-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_19) -

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Any other issue with performance are just due to not having enough memory to run current versions of Windows XP SP3 and other modern software. You have about 1/6 of what I recommend. And you have an older slower style processor. Your logs show
    Code:
    Processor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2392 Mhz
    Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 104.88 MB
    I recommend 3 GB ( 6 x 512MB = 3 GB).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks so much for all time and helping me with this issue.

It seems to be running a great deal quicker and hasn't been freezing. Also the unresponsive scripts seem to have vanished also.

As for the memory I don't think the pc is worth investing money in or I could add more memory. A new computer is in the future but not right now...so I'll have to put up with the slow issues for now.

Again, thanks and I followed the final steps you suggested and had C:\MGtools\analyse.exe fix the issue you found.

Thanks for the making the entire process easy to understand and follow thru with.

You and the rest of the staff are fantastic!
