Please read the announcement and sticky threads. HJT logs should only be posted when requested and it must be installed and run properly when a log is requested. Please run the steps below.

    - You must use only one antivirus application. Pick the one you want and uninstall the other. You have both McAfee and Avast right now. Do this before continuing with the below.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem, boot into normal mode and make sure you follow these directions:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

If you bring up Control Panel and select Add/Remove programs. See if it is in the list.

its not in that list or there own little folder that says macafee.com

  7. chaslang

It is installed here: c:\Program Files\mcafee.com

You may need to check with AOL to find out how to uninstall this feature. Perhaps the uninstall is an option under uninstalling AOL. I don't know the answer as I do not and would not use anything from AOL. You could also try asking about this in the software forum.

Your other alternative is to keep McAfee for now and uninstall Avast.

Complete the other steps I gave you anyway and leave the two AV's for now.

    Re: Computer trouble

You did not follow my directions for installing and using HijackThis. You have a browser running and you are HJT directly from the ZIP file.

    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis[1].zip\HijackThis.exe

You must install HJT properly before continuing.

Running two antivirus programs will slow your PC down. Using AOL stuff will also slow your PC down (too much baggage). Just look at all the processes AOL has running on your PC (including McAfee).
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLAcsd.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLDial.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\AOLSPY~1\AOLSP Scheduler.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\AOLCOM~2\ACCAgnt.exe
    c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe
    C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO\mcmnhdlr.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\111231~1\EE\AOLHOS~1.EXE
    C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\111231~1\EE\AOLServiceHost.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\AMERIC~1.0C\aoltray.exe
    C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0c\waol.exe
    C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0c\shellmon.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Aol\aoltpspd.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\AOLCOM~1\COMPAN~1.exe

I would suspect the above is the main reason for your PC being slow.

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8DA5457F-A8AA-4CCF-A842-70E6FD274094} - blank (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: FlashGet Bar - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - blank (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [1] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c erase "C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\AcsInstall.dll"
    O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/MediaAccess/ie/bridge-c5.cab

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

And tell us what problems you are having. If it is still that your PC is slow. You must take must figure out with AOL how to get rid of McAfee or you will need to uninstall Avast. That should help somewhat.

Did you uninstall one of the AOL Toolbars you had installed? This one is missing now and was not in your previous log. You can have HJT fix these two line because the program is not there anyway.
    O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {DE9C389F-3316-41A7-809B-AA305ED9D922} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll (file missing)
    O9 - Extra button: AOL Toolbar - {3369AF0D-62E9-4bda-8103-B4C75499B578} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll (file missing)

Here are a few other items you can have HijackThis fix. They are not malware but they are also not necessary and just waste system resource which adds to your PC being slow.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StorageGuard] "C:\Program Files\VERITAS Software\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r <--- only reminds you to backup files. Not needed!
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RealTray] C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER <--- not needed. See http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/realplay/
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime <--- not needed. See http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/qttask/
    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe <--- not needed. See: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/PowerReg_Scheduler.exe-4135.html
    O4 - Global Startup: hp center UI.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Shadow\ShadowBar.exe <--- not needed. See http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/shadowbar/
    O4 - Global Startup: hp center.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe <--- not needed. See http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/backweb-137903/
