    Hi guys,

I've had this issue before but it seemed to "go away" on its' own so I became no longer concerned with it. Now it seems the issue is back again after a few months. The frequency in which this is happening is becoming exponentially higher than before. At first it was maybe 1 time a week it would do this. Now it will consistency do it even while idle or in BIOS.

Worth mentioning there is no overclock.

    Steps I've taken so far:

-Ensured all cables are connected, inside and out.
-Checked temperatures (CPU running fine idle between ~38 to ~40C; case doesn't feel hot either while idle)
-Let sit idle (strangely restarts more commonly in BIOS mode than windows GUI)
    -Updated drivers for GPU
-Turned off asus power surge protection

    My current rig:

PSU: CORSAIR AX series AX760 760W
    CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K
    GPU: EVGA GTX 780
    Mobo: ASUS Z87-A
    RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance (2x 4GB)
    Case: Fractal R4
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit

One extra note to mention is that gaming GPU load has never caused it to restart yet. I watch a lot of videos on my computer and that tends to be when it happens most but I'm not sure if its just a probability thing or that may be a sign of a GPU issue of power spikes at what would normally be low power consumption. (I have no real evidence to back this up, though.)

Any ideas on how to diagnose? I'd like to reserve RMA'ing the PSU for the time to see if I can do rule out anything else before that also I do not have access to another GPU :(

I do not have the ability to keep my system on for very long. I couldnt get the diagnoses to complete since the system shut off somewhere in the middle of it and continues to do so.

Hmm, must be very frustrating for you.

Can you try to run MSInfo32, as the window comes up, click the ++'s in the left pane for Software Environment and then System Drivers, Running Tasks, Loaded Modules, Services and Windows Error Reporting. Once the last is filled, save it quickly as MSInfo32.nfo, you can then zip and attach it.

That'll still take a few minutes, you might have to break it down into smaller chunks, the WER section may take the longest.

When the computer turns off are you able to immediately turn it back on? If so, that rules out a heat issue.

When you say restarts, do you mena the computer reboots while you are in the BIOS?

I want to be sure there are 2 different problems: a complete shutdown in Windows, without a restart and a restart (as in rebooting) when in the BIOS. Please clarify.

I know you said you don't have access to another PSU, but I think swapping in another known good PSU is what you need to do here.

This problem can be caused by several different things, including failing RAM, failing CPU, heat, leaky caps (rare on modern motherboards), and more. But other than heat, everything else relies on good, clean stable power. So you need to eliminate that as the cause - especially before spending money on anything else.
