    Dear Major Geeks,
I want to thank you for helping me years ago get spy sheriff off my computer and just helping in general. Now I could use some help again.
I have been having some problems for a while, but the one that brings me here today is this: Last night I stayed up late, and since I was going to be up in a few hours, I left my computer on, and disconnected from the internet. When I got up early to write out my invoices, the computer had a message that it had restarted itself. Then there was the little "! saying to install updates now click here" I did not click it. I had stuff to do.
So I pulled up my folder to open my invoices in Microsoft word and the invoice came up but it was not letting me change anything. I couldn't click on it, I couldn't highlight an area, the mouse was behaving sluggishly, the window kept popping forward and backward like some other program was running. I couldn't close it either and had to alt ctrl delete to get the program to end.(my task pane is messed up too but I am not sure when this happened)
The internet did not seem to be affected so I came directly here and started and performed, in order, the Read me and run me first. I have been at for 6 hours. I have attached the logs for the programs I could run. I could not run combofix. It crashed my computer twice to the blue screen with the same error. I wrote it down if you need it. I also could not run Root Repeal. Everytime I tried that it froze and then I got a message from windows saying my virtual memory was too low and that some systems would be unavailable. Then the computer just stopped. completely and I had to restart by pressing the button, and yes I waited for a long long while before I pressed that button.
the scans did find some items which I did fix as per the instructions. I also have tried to use WORD and it works now. I am just concerned that there is more I need to do to fix this.
    Any help is greatly appreciated,
    Ruby

There were no real malware issues found on your PC.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks! It is running better. I did not create the system restore yet as I wanted to also see if there was some advice on how to fix my task manager. I know I need to start another thread in the proper forum so should I wait to do a system restore until I am done making any and all changes? Can you tell me what is the proper forum for problems with the task manager?

Yes you can wait until you get any other issues resolved. In fact, you can really ignore toggling System Restore anyway since no malware was really found.

Try posing in the Software Forum but you will have to be much more descriptive than saying "my task pane is messed up" as I have no idea what that means and I'm sure no one else will. ;)

Thanks again. I know that I need to be more descriptive about the task pane thing... and *wink* :) I was trying not to gunk up this forum with something that didn't belong here. I read what y'all say to people and I was trying to do the "right" thing so I didn't get a virtual spanking :)
