    :cry

I sent my laptop in and it turns out that the damage was caused by the coffee I spilled a while back. They are replacing my hard drive and mobo...for a lot of money since I did not get the accidental damage warranty..

This just tops off and exceedingly bad few days/week for me.:(

Oh dear me, I guess replacing the keyboard is out too then.:( Whenever I have a drink at the machine, no matter if it's even a cold glass of water, I always place it way back at arms length so if'n I do spill it, it's just the table that gets hit. That was aimed for others as I'm sure you're kicking yourself enough as it is at the moment.:cry

I tried to bring myself to tell them that I did not spill anything. Unfortunately, I am too honest and all I got was 'I don't have any knowledge of anything being spilled'. She told me I could speak to her supervisor and I just couldn't do it. Besides that, I knew they'd just say yeah right, there's liquid damage in here.:(

I don't even want to tell you how much this is going to cost me. :cry

and yes, augie. I have for sure learned my lesson. Jeez, I'm sick about this.

Hmm, I wonder if there's an equivalent to the solvent that we used to have at work, it was a chilled Freon ultrasonic bath that was used to get rid of excess flux after the wave or repair soldering. I believe that's illegal these days. That was the early 80's.

I also remember using this industrial cleaner to clean my keyboard at work and liberally applying it before the weekend. Monday morning and a dead keyboard!:cry Thankfully the repair techs dipped it in something in the back and it was like new. This was '91.

I wonder if there's a miracle solvent these days that would accomplish the same? I know there's some experienced folk out there.;)

Hopefully not more than if you bought a new lappy and could slave the old hard drive to it!!!!

I could buy a new laptop with it yes, but nothing compared to this one. And it shows how much I am not a geek that I have no idea how to slave a a laptop to a hard drive. It doesn't sound like it would be all the convenient. I'm just going to take my licks and make sure I'm more careful and hope this fixes the problem.

    :(

Did I say yet that this has been a crappy week?

Easy as an enclosure to be able to just plug it into the USB port. And that would be to transfer your data and such. But, it would involve some dismantling of the dead lappy.

But, maybe they will cut you a break as they had it once before, yes??

I wouldn't exactly call this one extra. It's more like a half an extra. I never know when it's going to work.:-D

I am pretty late to the thread but I just wanted to say that really stinks about the computer getting spilled on and you are an honest person. If I was a worker Id try to make you a deal on it being fixed "since you told the truth". If I was you Id say I could have lied and gotten it free but I didnt(and that should hopefully make them say hey nice lady) Ill cut you a deal.

Thanks silas. While I appreciate the sentiment, I never should have even started lying. The fact is, it was my fault.and I need to just deal with it, as painful as it is.
