Computer restart problem (win 2k)

this computer is 3 years old and came with windows 98, however, a couple of weeks ago i formatted and did a clean install of windows 2000, but now when i go to restart, it won't do it. it shuts down, and then i am stuck with a black screen. i'm left with no other option but to hit the power / reset button. why is this starting now? i installed windows 2000 about 3 weeks ago, and just these last few days it won't restart. any suggestions?

 

My first guess would be a driver problem. If you installed anything lately, that would be a good starting point. Uninstall it and then see if it works.

 

i don't restart often, so i can't pinpoint the time when this error started, can you think of which driver in particular would cause the error before i go crazy on all of 'em? i don't know which ones i installed recently, with the exception of my monitor, windows update had a newer version, so i installed that, but then i got the official one from their website (MAG innovision), could that be the problem?

 

Yes. Could be.
With XP, you have the option to revert back to the previous driver. I would try that.
