Computer Restarts Itself

Lately my computer has been restarting itself. The worst was yesterday, I turned it on and it restarted twice in a row, worked fine for maybe 30 minutes then restarted two more times, right after the other. After that, it works fine for the rest of the day. Once I shut down and turn it on the next day, it will repeat the process.

After it restarts itself I will sometimes get the message, "The system has recovered from a serious error." or it will take me to the Advanced Options start up where I can select to start in the last known good configuration (which actually doesn't help!) In addition, for some reason, I actually have no restore points before yesterday's date, so that sucked when I tried to do a system restore.

I uninstalled a new program, scanned for malware and viruses but that doesn't seem to be the probelm! Can anyone help?

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack you using?

Do you get any error messages at all, also check Event Viewer for errors at time of restart.

If you start in safe mode does your PC reboot randomly?

Is your PC insides all clean from dust, especially the CPU HSF?

You may be having isues with your Power Supply....do you have one you can swap out with?
Memory card issues have also been known to cause random re-boots.
I might also suggest you install and run a good anti-malware program (I like MBAM) also have you run a complete anti-virus scan?
Halo has made some good suggestions as well, I would add to his post you might want to verify that your fans are running and check the tempeture of devices inside of your machine (I like SIW).

Thanks for the response! My computer has taken to freezing now so I'm on my dad's comp...

It's Windows XP service pack 3

I dusted it but it was still turning off afterwards. No error messages except for the one from the Windows error reporting tool, and even that does not pop up every time. There was nothing significant in the event viewer at the restart times.

The first time I started it in safe mode, I walked away from it and when I came back 10 minutes later it was shut down as if in standby but it would not turn back on. The computer light was still on though. The second time I put it in safe mode, it froze.

To aucado54, the fans are running, I haven't checked any temps though. I do have MBAM installed and it found very little, if anything at all (I don't remember, sorry!)
