    Hello--

My computer is running slow on startup and shutdown, and it lags quite a bit in windows explorer and in opening applications.

I've already gone through the READ & RUN ME FIRST steps to no avail.

I ran HJT and am attaching my log file.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

Please attach the logs requested in step 6 of the READ ME!

Are your Ewido & Spyware Doctor versions paid versions?

Keeping all three of the below installed and running can cause an apparent slow down in system performance:
    - Ewido
    - Spyware Doctor
    - MS Antispyware

If you did not purchase Ewido and Spyware Doctor, uninstall them and keep the free MS Antispyware.

I only downloaded MS Antispyware and ewido recently so I could follow the instructions in the Read Me (the computer's been slow for over a couple of months now), and I don't have the paid versions of either ewido or Spyware Doctor. I've uninstalled ewido and Spyware Doctor and it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Attached are the bd and Panda logs.

None of your logs are showing any visible problems.

How much free space is availble on your harddisk?
When is the last time you did an Error check on your harddisk? What about a defrag?
How much RAM do you have?

Let's check a little deeper for mallware too!
Download, install and run BlackLight by F-Secure. Post the log once finished.

I have 30.3 GB available on a 37.2 GB hd with 128 MB of RAM.

I did an error check a couple of nights ago (but I left before it was done, so I didn't get to see if there were any errors). I did another one tonight, and it didn't find any problems.

I defragmented about a month ago before I left for winter break. Disk Defragmenter told me I didn't need to defrag again, but I'm running the defragmenter right now just in case.

I also just used Disk Cleanup, but there were only 2,439 KB to clean up, so I don't think that makes much of a difference.

    I'm attaching the BlackLight log.

(I've been working with this for some time now and decided that I've hit the limit of my computer knowledge. It's been driving me crazy. I really appreciate your help.)

I ran the defrag...still no improvement.

Well it does not appear to be malware problems. Perhaps it is just your normal speed based on limited memory and CPU speed (what is your CPU speed). The more items you load at startup (and yes some like antivirus are necessary) the slower it will be. And you do not even have a full firewall install yet. That will impact startup to but it is necessary to protect you.

None of the below are really necessary to be loaded at startup. Although a couple of them, you may prefer (everyone is different). You don't need Windows Messenger at all.
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background
    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Find Fast.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE
    O4 - Global Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE
