Hi, I'm looking for some advice on learning computers. I'm interested in learning everything from basic software to figuring out why it doesn't run like its suppose to. Building them hardware and software. I know they have many gimmicks out there and what better place to get advice then at a geek site, :-D well, I'm hoping to be called a computer geek one day,LOL. Any advice would be app., Bubba1ton

If youre good at learning on your own, pick up some books to get your A+ certificate.

Thanks so much for you input. The A+ certificate, is that a test you take, and what does it cover. Where do you get it from? What books would you advise me to get. I'm 38 and maybe looking to get into a different job field. I have a few friends that are pretty good at computers and been thinking that might be something I'm interested in. I like helping ppl and technology just amazes me, Thanks again, Bubba

You might search for CompTia A+ books/testing/classes. Where I am, the local Vo-Tech school offers A+ classes, some Cisco, programing, and Microsoft cert classes.

I have taken the A+ classes, is basic hardware, OS installation, minor Linux use. A good class or book to read if you want to learn about fixing computers. I never took the A+ test, but the class did fill in a few gaps in my self taught computer knowledge.

Thanks for your help, ComtiaA+ does this cover step by step on how do install os, add hardware, and so on. Or is this just to prepare you for the test, remember that I'm new to this and know very little. What I'm looking for is books, online schools, programs that will teach my from the ground up building computers, installing os, trouble shooting, adding hardware. I'm also interested in learning how to use the os too. Thanks for all of your help, Bubba

im kind of interested in this A+ certification too, is there a certain age you have to be to take the A+ test?

I think that my knowledge of computers is already pretty high just from teaching myself and experience, although i would probably have to pick up some books to learn additional stuff i dont know yet
