   Thanks Kestrel. I found the problem. At 72 and somewhat crippled its hard for me to get on the floor and get behind my hard drive, but, I did. The mouse connection had gotten into a bind and was partly broken. When I pulled on it, it broke completely. Bought a new mouse and problem is fixed.
