    Running Windows Vista

Every time I try to start the computer it goes normal except I get the following message,

    "Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot open volume for direct access.
Windows has finished checking the disk."

It then proceeds to the login screen, I log in and then within a minute or two the computer will restart on its own. I can still start the computer in safe mode. I have run Malwarebytes which detected a number of virus's which I promptly deleted in safe mode. This did not fix the problem.

I then read around that I should run chkdsk from the windows vista disk. I tried that and it did not fix the problem.

    Any help is appreciated.

What are your specs and is it a laptop?

That sounds an awful lot like an overheating issue I had with my old convertible laptop.

It was using that Turion 64 X2. Good lord those run HOT.

If the machine is running Vista, that puts it in about the same timeline as the Turion 64 X2.

It is an older machine but its a desktop. I don't hear the fan going crazy or anything like that if it helps.

I'll go get the specs right now.

sorry its taking so long. CHKDSK decided to go through on its own and its taking a while. Hopefully this is a good thing.

it keeps going through disk checks. Going to keep letting it do its thing.

It kept going through chkdsk and restrating in a loop. Eventually when it stopped and I tried to log in I was getting blue screen. I got fed up and just ended up reformatting. The problem seems to have subsided for now.

Sounds like to me the windows is corrupted you might have to do a system repair using the disc if not it will be a complete install a new fresh copy.
