    Hi,

I'm trying to clean up my in-laws computer as they've been having a lot of trouble with it running super slow.

It's a Intel Pentium 4, 3.00Ghz laptop with WinXP home edition and running SP2. They're also on a dial-up connection, so I've been putting the programs (from the read&run me) on it from a CDR.

Pretty sure have completed the Read & Run Me and have attached the three logs. Couldn't remember how to get the correct one for BitDefender, but it didn't pick anything up anyway.

Would be most appreciative if you could take a look and advise what may still be slowing the sys down. I think it has a bunch of things running at start-up as it takes forever to complete (start-up).

    Thanks for your time,
    Shanna

PS. have also just removed Norton and put on AVG, so if you see any remnants of the Symantec stuff, could you please tell me how to get rid of them.

Your logs do not show any malware issues; however, you can have HijackThis fix the two below lines:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

Other than that you will have to work thru all the non-malware startups and decide whether you need them or not. Quite often there are many items there that users really never use nor do they need or want. But only the end user can really know what they need.

If would suggest uninstalling SpywareGuard and keeping MS Windows Defender. That will save a little bit of your system resources.

    Thank-you,

Not really having the faintest idea about most of this stuff, could you possibly tell me how to get to where I can do that with the start-up things?

    Much appreciated,
    Shanna

Just Google each of the processes and read info about them and decide if they are something you need.

    For a couple examples like:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe

You would Google HPWuSchd2.exe and here one useful link is:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

You would Google qttask.exe and here one useful link is:
