trying to help a friend out:- her computer is running extremely slow takes approx 15 mins to load a page if it does load at all. Waited 45 mins for the log-in page to load, now trying in safe mode, which is taking approx 15 mins to load a page. From the limited info i have found out i don't think she has had any anti-virus running, she has lavasoft adware only. I've downloaded AVG, CCleaner, spybot to a disc from my computer to try and install on hers, but the disc won't load from the cd drive, its not recognising the drive, i'm presuming the computers infected, any help gratefully received. Its a dell dimension 5000

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Well normal procedures would be for you to run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support However, if the PC is really taking that long to do anything, I'm not sure how much or how long it will take you to do those steps. Let's just try the below to get an idea of what may be openly visible.

Download GetRunKey.Zip and ShowNew.Zip from the below links and extract all files from both ZIP files into a folder of their own. You can extract both ZIP files into the same folder. Like C:\MGTools
Then run scans with the two tools and attach the logs created to your next message.

Sorry for delay in replying, but i've still been trying to get her computer to load, i left it loading for a good couple of hours but only get to the welcome screen, just says loading personal setting. I've spent hours and hours trying to load it.
I can get on the computer in safe mode (which can take up to 15 minutes to load each page). I have managed to change the mouse settings and uninstall limewire and it has made it run a little quicker. I've downloaded spyware programs to my computer and then tried to install them from disc onto hers but i then get a message saying windows installer not installed as running in safe mode, close and boot up normal, so this is when i tried to run normal, but as stated it was just taking forever to load, so i couldn't load the programs. She has a different ISP to me so if i ran her computer in safe mode with network connections and then installed my ISP software onto her machine and tried to get on the internet this way to download do you think that may work. Many thanks for your time and help, all will be very gratfully received.

You may have the same problems as when installing the spyware programs!

Just do what I requested. Those programs require no installation and can be run in safe mode or normal boot mode.

It would also be helpful to get a HijackThis log as noted in step 7 of the READ ME. It also does not require an install. It is best to have HJT logs from normal boot mode, but safe mode is better than no mode. ;)

Thanks for your reply, sorry to be so thick, but how do i get the files you say to download onto her computer?
I have just spoken with her and have found out some more information, she says a relative attached an external hard drive on Sunday and ran an antivirus scan there were 70 problems found, trojans etc, he is away with work for 2 weeks so know no more than that.

Just found out that he also deleted some items from startup, do you think this may be anything to do with why it won't load.

Download them on another PC and copy them to a USB flashdrive, CD, floppy...etc and then transfer them to the other PC.

Since I have no idea what was deleted and I can say is if you delete the wrong files from a PC, you can make it unbootable. However you did not say it is not bootable, you just said it runs extremely slow. With seeing some information from the logs we request there is really not much we can do for you.

You can try downloading all of the tools from the READ & RUN ME and also from mentioned Special Removal Procedures to a CD ...etc to copy to the PC and see what you can run. The more the better. However if the PC was also behaving so badly even in safe mode, there could be hardware issues.
