I was womndering what you all thought about computer upgrading at this time. Do you think it is wise to biuld a really nice system? or wait for the M2 sockets to come out. I have an old radeon 7500 and an AMD 2400+. Not to good. I am looking into biulding an X2 4800 system with SLI. But i am not sure if i should wait for new CPU's and sockets to come out... not to mention the new Nvidia... not to mention the ATI stuff coming out. If they can ever have a decent product launch. It just the M2 sockets are so far out... (late 06). IDK if i can wait that long. Thanks

If you are going to wait until the next 'best' thing comes out, it seems like you'll be waiting forever!! Sure, the machine you described sounds great, but I think that shortly after it's built, the next 'best' thing will be out!! So I guess that all depends on you and your budget. Good Luck!!! I know, I'm not much help, huh?

I've been reading some buzz about Intel coming out with a rushed next-gen cpu before the end of the year that is set to have about 5 times the amount of transistors that the current amd's have. A source from Intel has hinted that you can say goodbye to the current amd line of cpu's as far as being any competition goes.
Now the new Intel cpu's are going to cost a fortune, but the reason I am menioning this is that Amd will be forced to reduce the prices on their cpu's in very short order.
The bottom line, is that it might make sense to wait a couple of months before you pick a high end Amd cpu.

I'm also waiting for the new AMD socket before I upgrade.

I don't like upgrading to a form factor that only has a few months left rather than a few years.

It (M2) should hopefully be out mid next year.

That should time well with the Micro$$oft Vista release.

ya I know I can't wait until dual cores are actually utilized. O ya budget around 3 grand obviously for the SLI 7800GTX or equivalent set up. I want to see Intel get trashed again. same with ATI, I like the paper launches. We will see

Any links to back this up?

Also, I'm sure this "new" cpu will be 5 times the cost. Or rather, use the $1000 price tag of a uber bleeding edge cpu.

I doubt intel would ever blatantly control the CPU market again... AMD has a huge lead and I doubt intel could ever just control most of it... just my opinion

I would wait as well but not too long...

    Eh?

Intel already control the CPU and GPU market. AMD is ineffectual compared to Intel.

That's like comparing Apple to Micro$$oft. (In terms of market domination)

baaah... Intel are cr@p! AMD are now kicking intel in all areas!

You don't read or understand very well do you?

You used the word "control", which means "dominate".

It's Intel that dominates the market, not AMD.

That doesn't mean one has better products than the other.
