Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 4700 series PC with 4CPU 3.00 Ghz Pentium (R) and I recently upgrade my ram memory from 520 Mb to 2.5 Gb. My wife has a computer with D CPU 2.8 Ghz Pentium (R) and 896 Mb ram memory.
When I use DVD shrink & Nero, same version on both PC's, my PC takes over 2 hours to complete the process and my wife's PC takes 26 minutes. I thought by upgrading my ram memory it would reduce the time taken but has made no difference.
Can anyone suggest why my PC takes so long.
    thanks for any comments

    Greetings, campbell...

We need some more info from you: what's the make and model # of your machine (please include any Service Tag #s), and what operating system version and Service Pack # are you using?

Also, please download and run EVEREST, a free system information tool.

When the scan completes select 'Report', 'Quick Report', 'Plain Text'. Select 'File', 'Save As...', name the report, and save to an easily found location such as your Desktop.

Then attach that file to your next post per these instructions: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post.

    *****************

Couple of quickies: have you reverted to your original RAM to see if your symptoms change? Does the machine exhibit any other symptoms?

Hi Caliban, thanks for your reply.
My PC is a Dell Dimension 4700 tag no. 4VYVB1J running windows XP service pack 3. It takes the same time with the original 520 Mb ram as with the upgraded 2.5 Kb ram
I downloaded EVEREST but don't understand how to get it to run a scan..

    Hi,
thanks for your reply, would it be worth my while upgrading my processor as my PC is over 6 years old and I could use my wife's to burn CD's.
I thought that because the processors were both pentium 4 and mine was 3 Ghz as opposed to my wife's being 2,8Ghz that mine was faster.
    regards,
    Campbell

Agreed with sach2 - the Pentium D is a dual-core processor, whereas the P4 is a single-core. The multiple core device will have much more inherent power which negates the slight mismatch in clock speed.

I strongly suggest you download and install Service Pack 3, not only for possible performance enhancements but for probable security upgrades.

You should also consider browsing your Dell driver support page and making sure that any pertinent drivers are updated.
