I'm not sure if the correct term is viruses or virii so I included both on my topic title. Well anyway so there, I collect viruses that I can find digitally anywhere.

    Example:
I went to a cousin's house. Plugged in my USB stick, found a virus. I then RAR it up and seal the archive with a password so that it won't be able to further damage anything. I see this act similar to catching a wild Pokemon. :) Only these Pokemons are nasty and stuff.

    My point in this topic:
Does anyone share the same collections as I do? Do you use a different method? Can we trade with our collections?

    Other stuff:
Feel free to post your replies and feedback whether it be good / bad /worse / etc. :p

You know - I used to do that a few years ago and later disassemble them....... Until I made a mistake and booted off an infected floppy. I dont do that any more.

But yeah rar should be fine until you go to look at them. For that you should use a non WinOS.

Lol same here, I also try to discover what they can do inside a Virtual Machine environment then take down notes about my theory. Then afterwards I'd cook up a fix for them and share it on my previous website... :)

    Hi

Not one of my main collection areas, more likely to get rid of them, but I can see why some like to collect them to analyse the method of delivery and payload, TBH these days malware is so variable, you can have 1K+ varients of the same malware as the signatures change, as do the file names.

Just a question for you if I can? what do you do with the malware when you have the various strains, is it a research project or do you have any end point disgnosis of how to combat the various malwares or is it just to collect the various Virii (you are correct, plural of virus is Virii)

Um that would be a lot of things. At first it was just me collecting them and making small bit-by-bit fixes but now, I'm planning on getting them all together to making a protection application going. Just not sure how to approach the idea though? I think I'd need more inspiration. :-D

Just don't do what a guy I worked with back in a day did. He made computers and sold them and also did cleaning and what not. But another thing was he had virus collection and he opened one of them and ended up losing all of his collection.

Another no-no for me. I always put my collection inside a folder in my HD which is monitored by Sandboxie and forces each and every file in it to run sandboxed. If you're to ask what the folder's name is, it's "C:\Pokedex\" :-D

You should copy all the virus'ssss :-D to your virtual machine make batch file that opens and runs all of them at once.

It would be like a virtual royal rumble, see which virus jacks the most resources and ends up on top.
