Computer wakes up from standby by itself

    Howdy,

I'm having this interesting thing happening where my computer is automatically coming out of standby by itself at some point overnight, such that I leave it at standby when I go to sleep, and find it turned on in the morning.

    My settings are attached.

I've also disabled my wireless mouse from waking my computer under the mouse's power management tab.

The only things that should be waking up my computer are the keyboard (which does work) and my smartphone (configured to send a magic packet with a WOL program; works as well).

I don't have a pet that can reach the keyboard, nor operate the smartphone, so I'm wondering what it could be that's triggering my computer to wake, and how can I find out.

    Thanks.

Check the BIOS for wake on LAN or Wake on schedule setting.
I had a computer that did this. It was set to update something at 2am so it powered up and got the updates. I finally put it on a strip instead of plugging it into an electrical outlet.

That Wake on LAN has a Realtek title. I'll bet your sound device is set to check for updates.

Do you have WinPatrol or Startup Monitor installed? If so, you can kill Realtek from checking for updates.

Do you think that disabling RTHDCPL.exe on startup would help with the potential update request from the sound device?

Also, I looked at the scheduled tasks and saw "GoogleUpdateTaskUserS-[etc]" and that it was last run at 7:47AM and scheduled to keep doing so at exactly that time. You think maybe this is causing my system to wake up?

Happened to me a couple of time during last winter when we were having local utility power surges [electricity]. Worth considering.

Well, that's why I disabled the wireless mouse! It caused the computer to wake up much more than it does now, due to minute vibrations that the mouse sensed!

No. All that does is not load the control panel. If tasks are scheduled, they will still occur.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to the disable the sound device from updating. Any help on that? I am using autoruns but the only thing I see remotely applicable is the RTHDCPL.exe that runs at startup

Try Control Panel ,look for sound and/or audio devices.

Check your first screenshot where you have Wake on LAN capabilities. Magic Packet is selected. Change it to Disabled. Click ok and close the box.
