Hi, I have just tried to get an MSI K9MM-V agp motherboard to work and I can't get it to POST, just a black screen. It has an AMD 4200+ cpu and 1 gig of g.skill ram and I have a geforce 6800 xt video card plugged into it. Has anyone heard of any issues with this MB and is there anything I can try? The memory isn't on msi's tested list so I'm not sure about compatibility but it has the correct voltage for the board. I wonder if I should try plugging the monitor into the onboard vga port to see if I can get into the bios? thanks for any input.:confused

:)Hi, ok here is the latest feedback fyi. I made a bench setup using an old case, monitor, p/s, and keyboard and hooked up the motherboard. plugged the monitor into the onboard vga plug. Amazingly the computer posted and I was able to get into the bios.I previously got a black screen plugging the monitor into the agp card. the only drive I had connected was a floppy but it saw it. I turned off something called USB emulation. I also changed the video to agp but I don't have a card in there and it wouldn't boot back up. cleared the cmos and it booted back up so I left the onboard vga alone until I stick a agp card in and I'll see what happens. I might be on the right track now. I know I have an old agp 4x video card around somewhere. I'll put it in and change the bios to agp and see if it boots up again after i shut down. If it does then I'm in business and I can try the board again in this computer. Will post back. If it goes I'm sure I'll need to run an xp repair and reregister windows .

Ok, this is the latest report on solving this problem. I located an old geforce 5200 agp 8x and put it in and the machine booted and I got into the bios and set the display to agp and disabled the vga shared memory. shut it down and it booted right up, although there is no hard disk or anything but a floppy connected I believe I can try to install this board again and I think it will work. I'm trying to squeeze a few more miles out of my 6800 xt agp card and I believe the msi K9MM-V is one of the only boards left that you can still use an agp video card. Anyway I think it will all come together now. will post back if it all works. I hope this isn't going to be another nightmare scene.:D

:cry Hi, it was like nightmare on elm street for 6 hours till I finally gave up. evidently this motherboard bios has a problem recognizing an agp video card and usb keyboard. the power switch also started to act up and the computer would power up without using it. After using the onboard vga to get into the bios and change the display settings and turn off usb emulation using a ps2 keyboard I connected it to my lcd widescreen and agp video card and managed to get into the bios. I had the hard disk disconnected so I shut down and connected it and turned it back on again and black screen no post again. at this point I gave up and put the old parts back in the case after hours of fighting this thing. I will try to send it back to the manufacturer since it's been way over thirty days since I bought it from newegg. I believe this is probably a bios related problem as the bios is version 1.5 and I see on msi's site that 1.7 is the latest for this board. anyway, anyone buying this board be aware of the bios problems with version 1.5 This is the first problem I've ever had with msi motherboard after using them for over 10 years so I'm pretty sure it's a good board with the newest bios. there aren't many motherboards that have AM2 cpu and DDR2 ram that support agp video. I'm sure the replacement will be ok.

:) Man that MSI is quick. Requested an RMA # less than eight hours ago and and received it. Packed it up and it's ready to send off.:)

I don't think this has anything to do with your problem, but A friend of mine couldn't get his AGP to work on the same model Motherboard. By some strange account he manage to have plugged an older PCIe card into the AGP slot. I haven't figured how he managed that but it works fine now that an AGP card is in there.

It was strange how he did it

I have recently had a similar problem with an MSI P4M900M3-L
Turned out, I had to reset cmos, after non start - fans worked, but no post. Reset cmos, changed ram to 667, and it booted up fine - check your ram, could be your problem.

Hi and thanks for the feedback. I ended up RMAing it back to MSI with no problem. the specs say that it supports ddr2 800 ram. I think it was a lemon. I'll see what MSI sends me back. I did try almost every conceiveable combination of ps2 keyboard, clearing cmos, vga monitor, dvi , etc. I couldn't get anything to happen using a 6800gt agp card but did get into bios using the d-sub onboard and made some bios setting changes but the screen went black again. I think I should have moved forward instead of backwards getting a new motherboard and just forget about keeping that high end agp video card and just move to pcie video card.
