My old burner drive was a Toshiba / TSS Corp TS-H552L model. After years of service the burner laser finally went. To stay consistent I purchased the same model off a reputable buyer on ebay. I just tried installing the drive but cannot get my computer to see the drive. I have tried the following with no solution to my problem.

    1) Checked to make sure the cables were seated fully and the pins weren't bent
    2) Uninstalling and reinstalling the IDE controllers
    3) Changing the slave/master orientation with my other dvd player drive
    4) Would have deleted "Upper & Lower" filters if they were in the registry
    5) Set the BIOS to default settings

    6) Restarted many times during and after all of the above

I stuck the old drive back in recently and it was recognized instantly by my computer.

The package that the drive arrived in was pretty roughed up, so it is possible that it took damage and was banged up along the way. Still I'm hoping there is a fix and not that it broke during the trip or the seller sold me a busted drive.

    Running Windows XP
    PC is HP Pavillion a1224n

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Fixed the problem by switching out the motherboard from my old drive and putting it in my new/used one. Computer recognized it right away.
