Computer won't respond

I started up my computer and waited for about 10min. nothing came up exept for my background image so I restarted it from the ctrl+alt+del. The same thing happenned, so the only thing my computer will respond to is ctrl+alt+del! :banghead

I take it that Windows starts but you are getting no icons, taskbar etc?

You really need to post a few more details with your question, like Windows version, basic pc details (less important in this case but is it a laptop or what? Make is also useful) and particularly what happened just before the problem. have you loaded any new hardware, programs or upgrades recently?

Then try booting to safe mode then booting normally. That by itself may be enough to clear the problem.

If not tell us which if any of the F8 options you can reach.

I have an windows XP HP pavilion i left it on for several hours then everything came up

 

Sounds like one of the famous Microsoft updates at work they can take a long time these days even with broadband.

Nevertheless do a malware check to be on the safe side and copy off important data.
