Hi, I bought a computer from a friend for $800.00 and I was wondering if I had gotten ripped off. I am going to list the specs:

He installed Windows XP Professional on it
    It is a Pentium 4
    1.69 GHz
    768 MB of SDRam
    40 Gig Hard Drive
    3 1/2 Floppy Drive
    48x52x42 LITE-ON CD-RW Drive
    16x TDK Dvd/CD-RW Combo Drive
256 MB SDRam NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Graphics Card
    A MAG Innovision CRT 2048 x 1536 Monitor
ATI TV WONDER Tuner Card and a
    C-Media PCI 5.1 Sound Card

So, Did I get ripped off, or is that a good price?

i spent more than 1000$ upgrading the system in my sig(still not completed yet) .. and ... uh ... it is way better than the one you bought from your friend ... I would say that PC is worth no more than 500$ and I think Im being generous as there doesn't appear to be any name brand parts among the equipment listed and the highlight of that system is XP Pro and the high res monitor(and Mag isn;t a quality brand AFIAK but I couldn't say they plain suck) ... of course it all comes down to whether that is a willemette or a northwood ... if it is a willemette, I'm sorry to say that you got ripped dude! ... if a northwood .. is not too bad the price

oh if you don't know whether it is a willemette or northwood download "CPU-Z" it will tell you(my PC in my sig outperforms a willemette:D)

I would say you got ripped bad. IMO even a northwood core wouldn't help improve the system that much.

Also when you said he installed windows xp did your friend give you the discs for Windows XP? If not it might be possible that he is distributing it on to computer illegally.
