Yes, wears out the electronics. If you are not using it, let it go into sleep mode, or just shut it down. No need to keep it up 24/7 when you are not using it.

Laptops are not be left running all the time it will eventually overheat. if you have got a dektop computer that can be left running 24/7 without any problems.

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

Desktop's Can be left running 24/7.

But as others said no it is not a good idea to leave the Laptops on 24/7 reason one is that they will over heat and burn out really quick and reason two most likely if you use the power cord and leave the battery in at the same time. The battery could over heat and if you switch to the battery after leaving the power cord in for so long.It would most likely lesson the battery's usage power level's.

If you usually use your laptop in one location, you could remove the battery and run off the AC adapter. This will save the battery from daily wear. I believe most latptops will run this waIf you do this, still put the battery in sometime each month and use it a day or so.

I'm not suggesting this as an option for leaving your laptop on 24/7. I would still not do that. They tend to run hotter than desktop systems, whether running on battery or on AC adapter.

NOTE: While many laptops will run off the AC adapter, i.e. with the battery out, your particular model may not. You can quickly tell by simply trying it.

Some laptops will not run without the battery installed, due to they use the battery the same way that a UPS works, in keeping the electrical signal clean.
