Comsysapp.pif causing video performance slowdown?

I've been troubleshooting an issue with my video card performance for a few days now and have discovered something rather odd.

    My system is Windows XP
    AMD Athlon 64 3700
    2 Gigs of RAM (Kingston)
EVGA Nvidia 7900 GT/GTO Video card
    ABIT AN8 SLI Mobo

It started with having excessive crashing (Every 5-10 minutes in some cases) for Supreme Commander and a few crashes with other games. I tried updating/changing my Nvidia drivers and doing all manners of things to fix the issue but I couldn't. I was also getting horrible benchmark and test results for graphical performance. In some cases my video card was rating at a level lower than a 6000 series Nvidia card.

I decided to reformat and reinstall Windows to see maybe if a fresh install would clear the issue, but that has not been the case. I've also tested my hardware to ensure that it's working. I installed my video card in a friends computer which is roughly comparable and it ran fine. I also swapped my power supply with my friends to check if maybe my power supply wasn't feeding enough power to the video card but that also did not change anything, so it does not seem like a hardware issue (at least not the PS or vid card).

I discovered that if I shut down a process running on my computer called "comsysapp.pif" my video card performance instantly shoots back up to where it should be (when I run benchmarks and tests). I have no idea why this would be and the process seems to be a legit Windows process (unless it's been taken over/replaced by my virus tests/spyware tests turn up nothing).

I'm not sure exactly what to do about this. The process always returns whenever I reboot so I have to manually shut it down and I'm not sure if it's needed or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may want to post in the MG Malware Removal Forum with an HJT logfile.

From what little French I know and what I found on the net comsysapp.pif doesn't sound so good.

    Be sure to read

    Before posting.

I could be wrong, so it won't hurt to get a second opinion.
