My laptop has taken a dump on me. Dell Latitude D810, running Windows XP Professional. Worked great last time that I used it on Friday, November 17th. It now barely runs, everything takes forever to happen and all applications invariably bog down ("not responding") after a few minutes. In fact, I could not run HJT because it would not complete the scan before going into a "Not Responding" death spiral. Attached are my logs. I would greatly appreciate any help, including advice on how to trick my computer into allowing me to run HJT so that I may supply that data as well.

I answered my own question. I ran HJT in Safe Mode. I hope that provides adequate info for now.

The "runkeys.txt" would not load. It was empty.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Based on the logs you have attached, I don't see any malware problems.

I do have a question about one file. Do you know what the below is for:
    C:\WINDOWS\etrnview.exe

You may want to look into Restoring your system to a point in time before Nov 17th to see if that helps. Perhaps something you recently installed is causing problems. Other than that, perhaps you need to look into a hardware issue or you need to check to see how much free disk space exists.

    Chaslang:

Thank you for your response and guidance. Based upon your statements, I ran Task Manager to view my memory reserves and instead saw that spoolsv.exe was eating up 98% of the CPU. Various sites named spoolsv.exe either a virus or a necessary part of Windows. It turns out I had documents pending for printing in Windows Image Writer. That caused spoolsv.exe to run and bog down the computer. I erased the pending print jobs and everything is back to normal.

I greatly appreciate the fact that you took the time to assist me and point out a possible solution. If you ever have a real estate law question, you have a phknlwyr at your disposal.
