[There was a post on this subject in Jan 2023 but perhaps consensus on what to use has changed since then?.]

I will be purchasing a new laptop with Windows 11. During the initial setup I want to configure the laptop to use a local account and not a Microsoft account. I am confused as to which method to use. My understanding is that there are 2 methods. I have seen both methods online and am unsure which is best.

    Guts of the 2 methods:

Method #1: At the sign-in screen use the email address a@a.com (an invalid address) OR no@thankyou.com (a locked account). Windows will continue the setup without a Microsoft account and just use a local account. Is this still correct?

Method #2: Follow Windows 11 install process until the “choose a country” screen. Choose location & accept terms. Now disconnect from the internet. In a command prompt enter "oobe\bypassnro". After reboot in command prompt enter "ipconfig /release". And when a screen appears with “Let’s connect you to a network”, click on "I don't have internet".

OR - maybe this does not matter since I can always switch Windows 11 from a Microsoft account to a local account?

Question: Which method should I use? Is there a consensus that one methods is better than the other and will consistently work every time?

    Thank you.
