Conflicker?

I'm not sure if what our computer has is the conflicker worm or not. The machine is running XP Pro SP 3 and from one of the 2 accounts on the machine, whether in Safe Mode or not, it will take the passoword and look as though it is logging in but then shows to be logging right back off and leaves us at the log in screen. From the Administrator account it wil not recognize the normal password whether in Safe mode or not, it just shows the message that Windows could not log us on.

Is this one of the smptoms of the conflicker worm and if so, how would I go about cleaning the computer if I cannot log on to it?

If you are now being looped back on your login screen, it means that userinit.exe file has been deleted, infected or corrupted or the registry keys associated with it may have been deleted or corrupted. Have you tried logging into safe boot mode? if that does not work then you will need to do the below:
