That's a tough one Ned in today's economy as you obviously don't have the luxury of enough time to decide now. I wish I had something more to offer you than well wishes. I'm sure you've been around the block a few times, see what the co-workers feel like.

No, not like that!:p:-D Good luck.:)

This is true, the people at the interview seemed ok although there was a more mature lady there who looked like my old English teacher :eek

Well my 4 hour trial just ended after 9 hours lol
    Apparently I rawk!! :strong

Yes, they hired me after being there for about 30 minutes, so I must have done something right lol
I think unless some wonderful offer comes along, which is doubtful, I'll probably stay put for a while and see if I can get back on track financially and go from there.

Things might finally be looking up :)

Congratulations, Ned. Even if this job gets you on a financially secure footing, that's a start.
You never know, you might enjoy it.
I'm in a job I don't mind, though the pay's cack. I'd still like a little win on the lottery. Euro one stands at £89m. That's one retirement fund.

    BTW.....Any Guinness going?

Ohhhhhh man I'm so tired :-D

6 months off, sitting on my arse playing games and thrown back into the mix head on has hit me like a freight train lol
Hired for part time..... by the end of this week I'll have 46 hours lol, I hate to think what full time is :-D

I'm enjoying the job though, still on training but wont be long before they give me the department I was hired for, actually 2 of the department heads are arguing over where I should be, they both want me in their respective departments :-D
Never experienced that before, it's quite funny lol

Yeah anyway, so this is a local shoe shop, a big one, an outlet actually I guess you guys call it, I have never seen so many shoes, over 260,000 pairs on the premises, very busy too, never realised how much business they do, aparently Monday was the slowest day for 2 months and they only sold 178 pairs lol, so pretty fast paced and I keep forgetting to take breaks lol, too busy to stop I guess... and I know nothing about shoes :-D
But broke down yesterday and bought me a pair of Nike Air because my $25 walmart shoes were crippling me, $75 (staff discount :-D ) for Nike Air Pegasus, the ones the US olympic team used aparently... because, you know... I run and train a lot :-D

I'm also 1 of 2 guys working there, the other guy is stock, but with my English accent I do quite well on the floor :-D

Funny thing is, talking to my boss she said what made her offer me the interview was my email address (co.uk) , she didn't even read my resume lol, weird because I very nearly used my gmail.com because I thought anyone seeing a co.uk email would think I was maybe only here temporarily.

So surrounded by women (12 I think, maybe more lol) in a shoe shop...... it's hysterical, you girls are so funny about shoes :-D

So yeah, things are on the up, the wife is looking good to get full time where she works and a small promotion, the boy has landed himself an apprenticeship , maybe our bad luck streak is comming to a close, god I hope so... although the fuel tank on my car has just popped a hole and is pissing fuel rolleyes Oh well, I can afford to get it fixed now :-D

I guess I need to find me a new avatar of Al Bundy :-D

Congrats Ned! I'm glad to see that things are finally working out for you and your family! However, you mentioned that business is pretty slow, huh? Well, all you have too do is PM Dyamond the address of your store and I'm pretty sure business will pick-up immensly:-D And with 260,000 pairs of shoes to choose from, well need I say more???roflmao

Hehehe, I expected to hear you getting something in retail tech sales and not shoes!-D Congrats and I'm sure your accent had a bit to do with it, also your patience.;) Someone somewhere said a good salesman can sell anything. Go get 'em!:)

Hey, got a question Ned. Why is a size 10.5' in one brand, not the same size as a 10.5" in another brand? Drives me freaking crazy. Buy one pair, the 10.5 fits great. Try on another pair, damn, too small, need a size 11...

Congrats again on the job Ned. :)

lol This is very true, thankfully even though I was born and raised in Norfolk, I don't have a Norfolk accent, not sure why, I'm very nondescript , many think I sound like James Bond...... but as an Englishman I know thats not true :-D

It is amusing though, I mean I'm used to it having been here 5ish years but the girls copy the way I say things and ask me what a line in a movie or TV show meant lol and if I'm feeling mean and want to confuse them I just revert back to speaking how we English do.... slang... lots of it :-D

@Fred... That is a good question and one that no one really knows a true answer to, it largely boils down to what country the shoes are made in, if they are made in North America like Merrells then the US size is acurate , if they are made in Asia like most Nike and Reebok then it varies. But no 2 manufacturers make shoes the same sizes. I think it's like a marketing thing, maybe they think if you buy their product first then you will go by their sizes and stick with them because others don't fit properly in the same size.
It also varies from styles, yesterday a big lad came in with his folks and was wearing size 14 basketball boots, he wanted dress shoes, he walked out with perfect fitting size 10.5's. Go figure.

@Mimsy... lol now there's a girl response :-D Unfortunately they don't have a website, hell the cash registers still work on DOS, stock is handled manually which needless to say is extremely time consuming. But if you're ever in southern Ontario... :-D
And yes, I have learnt a scary amount about shoes and feet in the past 4 days, although when it comes to womens dress shoes..... I plead the 5th :-D

Like I said, it's not the most glamorous or high paying job, nor is it something I ever saw myself doing, but it's not a bad wage and it's good fun but most importantly it's the beginning of my families new life that we have been trying to start for the last 5 years, it actually feels like we might finally be getting somewhere. Am I going to do this for the rest of my life?... Highly unlikely, but for now it's a wage in a job I don't hate that doesn't physically cripple me.

I also got outsmarted yesterday which really annoyed me, a guy came in absolutely off his tree on some form of drug, judging by the way he was acting I'd say heroin or similar, knocked over all kinds of crap and then asked me if we had a Puma in size 12, I had been keeping an eye and when I went to look I signaled another staff member to watch him, we didn't have what he wanted but stood there for a couple of minutes telling him where he might find it..... an hour later when I finally got round to sorting out the mess he created I realised he played me a stole a pair of Wilson's. SOAB! I still can't believe I fell for that, he just caught me off guard I guess. And no, he didn't wear them, he hid them under his clothes I guess, he was wearing very baggy track suit. SOAB!! :mad
